71 Blazer rebuild in Texas

I noticed that this morning. It came off this rig, with the 350??

Ended up coming up with.....yours is wrong. :D

Just walked out of the garage and looked at the gray one before I posted...

That might, or might not be for the tcase I grabbed out of the shed. Lol

I give up on this tread.....it's making me look like an idiot. :haha:

Small block and big block crossmembers are identical, because the SBC and BBC motor mounts themselves are the same. The only difference is the location in the frame where it gets bolted in. BBC goes closer to the firewall.

....and yes, Mike that's the NP205 mount! :doah:

I helped a buddy with a 454 swap in his 71 jimmy 25 years ago...he still has it! We used the same cross members and motor mounts.
They had to be moved forward for the BB so the dizzy would clear the firewall. I don`t remember drilling new holes for the engine cross member, I think they were there already? But we did for the transfer case, but it was swapped from a 205 to a 208 I think, could have been a 203? I can`t remember.

Is that what you meant by the BBC goes closer to the firewall Greg?

I was talking to Speedhole Mike last night about his tcase crosmember!
Had to stir his neer with my finger about it a bit! :haha:

Regardless of what any of us have in our junk pile (AKA Stock parts) The DIY4X one get my vote. Sure wish I had put one in way back when, and believe you me I will when that motor has to come out.

Thanks guys, NorCal69 The Black crossmember you posted picture of actually looks like the rear trans mount crossmember.

But if anyone does have the stock crossmember and mounts for a 350 please let me know. And what you want for them.

This would be the correct frame cross member for a small block.

Yes Sir, That's the puppy I need..

This is what the last guy came up with... Looks like he used the top wings and angle iron...

Next question

I am taking the Body off to clean and rework the frame... ""Does anybody know what the weight of the body and double wall top is.. With doors on"".. ?

I have the Body about 8" elevated already.. with all connections to the frame cleared.. next will be blocking the body up and then roll the frame out from underneath...

I'm sure when you first saw that angle iron it was WTF?!?! lol

I'm no help on the weight.

My buddy came over yesterday and we now have the Body lifted and the Frame is a roller.
I was very happy with the condition of the frame, after pressure washing the frame is clean and almost rust free.

Cleaning and painting now and will get engine and trans out to have trans rebuilt.

I hope to get the trans down to the rebuilder this week. And I am not sure if I need to have the NP205 transfer case rebuilt.

These pics bring me back. All I really remember was how freaked out I was to of taken it so far apart and was it really going to ever drive again. It all turned out ok so now I can enjoy somebody else's labor of love. Nice and keep up the pictures

Thanks guys. The best way I can put it is, I do one (1) bolt at a time, then remove what comes loose.

It is really amazing what you can do with a floor jack and an engine lift.

I can only do a little at a time, but.... If I plane things ahead of time it goes smooth.

The trans is at the rebuilders getting done and he said to bring in the NP205 and he would check things and replace the output seals that are leaking.

Moving along, and thanks to all for help and motivation.

Trans and NP205 out to rebuilder and should be back next week.

It's going slow but that's ok, just one thing at a time. The cross-member is installed for the engine now.

I have the motor out of the donor truck, I opened up the pan to inspect and the internal is really clean.
The motor is a 3956618 block casting suffix stamp is for a 1969 350/255hp 4 bolt main.

The engine will get new gaskets and then the drivetrain starts going back in.

Got the NP205 transfer case and the Turbo 350 trans back from rebuilder, Trans has been rebuilt with B&M shift kit and new torque converter. And the 205 has been gone through and all new gaskets and seals. $750 for all.

I think that was fair.

Looking forward to having engine back in soon.
