71 Blazer Vortec 7/16 -- Custom Bumper. Yes or No?

If you're going to get into the frame at all.....it's probably a good idea to replace the 40 year old fuel lines. Make sure that the ones you put in are sized appropriately to feed that hungry motor too....

:usaflag:

Might as well!:haha:

There has to be a different statement for what's going on over in Greg's thread. Something along the lines of :eek1::doah::thinking::confused::bow::bow:!

Think I have a buyer for the 3/4 ton axles today. That'll put some money back in my pocket. Received my transmission and tcase. Will take a picture tonight. Been pretty busy with the little guys 4th bday party this past weekend, and the woman wantin to get all cozy since its cold out! :o

Now xmas is right around the corner, and I need to move on this frame job. I'm looking at how Greg has his Body sitting on that contraption he built. I'm wondering if that would also be a good way to go for me. My garage is small and I think getting the body up in the air would be a great idea! Save space and keeps the body out of the way.

We'll see...

Be vey careful when lifting these bodies. If the the doors are off when you do it the body has zero support, other than rocker boxes and it is very easy to twist and bend the body while lifting it.

New pic... plus video!

Hey, Got some pics!!

Here it is delivered to little buddy on friday! He's stoked! check out the shirt!!

And here is my WALL OF GREATNESS!

The 1 ton gear... ready to be disassembled.

K, also had a little issue with this tranny... is this an easy fix? I bought this unit from a guy on ebay. Great guy, just wondering if he slipped on something with this combo.

Off to sell the old 3/4 ton setup!

Can you take a direct overhead photo of that linkage?

I think I'm seeing the issue, but I can't be sure.... it's not a twin-stick or anything right?

It looks like the shifter is hooked to the closer of the two shift rails, and there is a strip of metal that connects the front and rear rails together. When you shift, there is too much freeplay in the joints and the outer shift rail won't move correctly.

If that's what is happening, it might be as simple as moving the linkage from the shifter over so that it pulls from the center of that strap instead of from the one side.....

Hard to tell without a clearer photo.

haha! Knew that was coming! Hopefully this thing won't even see the rain! Kind of hard when living in WA!

But after thinking about it... What do I want for this truck. I want it to be a cruiser mainly. Something for summer driving. Nothing better then a topless truck cruising under a wide blue sky! I don't want to baby this thing too bad..but I don't want to thrash on it either. I'm not going to feel right if I don't use it to its full potential. So when I say never see dirt.. I should take that back. I would love nothing more for this thing to go on trips to Eastern Washington this next summer and take the boy and wife out where there is no pavement. Someplace where the dirt is forgiving and tree branches are far far away! Owned this truck for 10 years now, and want to keep it in the family for years to come! I don't want to be that guy that never drives his restored rig and is garaged for years!

Oh yah- sold my 3/4 ton axles (that was originally going into this project) for $500 last night! Had a detroit in front-- he's putting it in to an 87 Jimmy!

In the video, your bracket bolted onto the trans is flexing around a lot and it looks like there's slop in the shifter bolt. It does take a lot of leverage to overcome the detents in the 205. If you dig though my build thread in the 69-72 forum, you can see how I fabricated an extra brace where the shifter pivots to tighten it up.

Just got off the phone with ORD. I'm looking at getting my Crossover setup for that Dana 60 and some Zero Rates while they have their sale going on. While I was on the phone I was asking about what I had planned to do and if there would be any issues with clearance.

I want to use my 8" 73-87 springs in the front with a 6" shackle (with the zero rate). Something along the lines of this: http://diy4x.com/cart/index.php?route=product/product&path=24&product_id=117

I saw a member over at the 67-72chevytrucks board do this and he had no problems. BIGBADCHEV72's setup -- http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=299290

Jon at ORD said because I will be using a longer shackle and a longer spring that this 8 inch superlift spring would end up only giving me a 6 inch lift. How can this be? with all the B52 swaps with the 52 inch spring, doesn't the longer spring equate to a larger lift? If this is the case would I just be better off with the 67-72 6" superlift front spring I have already under the truck?

Sorry for all the questions, but I am a real village idiot here!

I don't have any personal experience with them, but I've heard the later model chevy springs tend to be "flexier" than the old stuff so maybe that's why there might be less lift.

bLUE mTNS ARE PRETTY MELLO BUT FUN

It never rains in Eastern Wa the trees jump outta the way. We'll have to do a family camping trip this summer with Bigbadchev and his family.

I like the build!

What size tire are you trying to fit?.......8" springs up front PLUS a zero-rate?!! :eek1: That's a whole lot of lift for a truck that isn't going to wheel.

My guess is that ORD was trying to tell you that a longer shackle (in the stock position) would lay down more with a longer spring so you won't get the lift out of it that you normally would if the shackle was more upright.

EDIT: Just checked out that link to BIGBADCHEV72's pics and now I'm sure of it....look how raked-back the front shackle is. 2nd Gen springs are 1" longer than ours so the shackle angle is going to get wacky... if you want all the lift, you should consider moving the shackle hanger back from it's stock position. DIY and ORD both sell an aftermarket solution I believe.

I can't be the only guy that just likes the look of a lifted truck.

8 inch + zero rates + body lift = 40's with room to spare! B*TCHIN!

Guess its back to the drawing table, to find out what will work the best.:doah:

Instead of pming you back Ill just post here. I got the 8" 73+ springs and 1" zero rate to work decent with 38x14.5s and just mall crawling, The zero rate was installed stright up, not moving the axle and just adding lift.

The first time I tried to take it out it was painfully obvious that something needed to be done. I ended up Cutting the rivits out of the front spring hangers and then welding in a piece of 2"x6"x1/4"wall rectangle tubing across the frame. Then welded the factory spring hangers back in place after measuring 500 times. This let me move my axle forward and center it in the wheel well. This also let me get a better angle for the springs to work.

I took it out wheeling memorial weekend and It was night and day difference just driving it up to go wheeling. The front crossmember tightened up the front end tremendously It gave me quite a bit more lift too. I have alot nicer ride compared to before since the rear shackle can move like it is supposed to.

Antother thing that worked out great with the cross member was that I now have a place to mount my D rings for a front recovery point. It also tucks up under the bumper so that you dont really notice it as well.

If you are going to use the 73+ springs this is defanatley the way to go.

Here is a before picture of shackle angle and wheel placement and afters

She's OFF!

Dropped the Blazer off to go get sand blasted yesterday! Kind of an ackward feeling when leaving your truck for a week. Wife is happy to park in the garage again!

Prep

2/4/2010 Truck back from Sandblasters and PREP!

Truck came back from the Sandblasters about a couple of weeks ago. Been trying to make some progress before priming. Found some nasty spots that showed up. Did a little sanding where they media blasted for prep. Put some Zinc Chromate on the bedsides, and now on the look out for some good LH and RH front fenders. Swap meet in town next weekend should help. Also installed the ORD Shackle Flip. Set the body up on some wood so the Axle can roll out from under. Hoping to paint the frame this weekend if the weather permits!

Straight from the Media Blasters!
