NorCalKid submitted a new Build:

71 C20 gets a 5.3

I picked up a 71 C20 with a seized 350/400 combo for $600. I plan on doing a quick build and using it as a dd, but well see how it goes. Yanked the old motor and transmission and found a 2003 5.3 and nv4500. On to the pictures.

All stripped out, not sure what will go back in.

sweet man, good luck, always good see another LS swap.
good luck keeping it quick too.... that was my plan.... and now i am frame off resto. truck looks pretty good though!

Awesome, I wouldnt paint it or anything. A cheap wood bed would hold up fine to kegs and tools etc. I decked a goose neck with cheap 2x6s and just put water seal on it. Its held up and still going strong 6 years later. Hauls skidsteers, backhoe, forklift, augers, and all sorts of drilling equipment.

Nice, I will probably go that route at least to hold me over till I put in something nice down the road. Going to try to get it moving before I deal with any of that stuff, bed, paint, radio, ac...

QUESTIONS: ANYONE RUN THESE GAUGES? VDO VISION SERIES? IS THERE A WAY TO MOUNT A 4" GAUGE IN THE 5" BEZEL HOLE HOLE?

Got some more done on the truck and keep acquiring more parts. Picked up the parts for the manual swap: 6.0 flywheel (orileys nfw1050), normal k-series 10 spline 12" clutch and a special ls2 pilot bearing (GM 12557583). I also ordered up an aluminum radiator, a bunch of AN stuff for the fuel system and a cheap cold air intake system to hack up

Got the ls adapter kit from Kert. Pretty nice setup, I plan on running 73-91 frame to cross-member brackets to make it work. I had to clearance the ac bracket a bit to bolt them on, but the brackets still pretty beefy.

Pulled the dash apart and swapped on an early 90's steering wheel, sorry if this is blasphemy but I like the smaller, non-greasy/nasty wheel. It had one on there that I dont think was even the right year. Pulled the shifter and the gear indicator of the column, I will swap a manual one on there eventually. You can see the third pedal making an appearance down there too, I was pretty stoked when I found that in the pick n pull.

When did this start happening? :D

Pfft.... I wanna help.
You know, so as I can say I did. :deal: :haha:

I'll bring the beers...

I assume you work for an independent brewery if you are hauling their kegs for them in your personal rig?

Yeah a decent size micro brewery called Sudwerk. Fun place to work. Some of the hauling is work some to stock the kegerator.

Your build was the last bit of motivation I needed, i have always wanted a 69-72 chevy. Started looking and dreaming on Craigslist then my girlfiend found this one for me. Someone she knew was getting rid of it cause the engine seized. Was supposed to be free but $600 was close enough.

Haha we call it amature night. Thursday mornings are always interesting, looking for what got stolen/broken the night before.

Played around with my fuel system. Stainless braid hurts, but AN fittings seem pretty cool. First time using them.

That white plastic piece is my sweet quick connect removal tool. Redneck engineering.

Quick connect to AN fitting.

Next up rigging up an intank fuel pump on the stock sending unit

Grabbed some brackets from a 73-87 2wd at picknpull. They line up on the top of the frame and I drilled new holes for the bottom. Kerts engine mounts half way in. Might slide the motor in tomorrow.
