71 C20 gets a 5.3

I will probably run a bigger blazer tank in the back at some point just to gain some volume. The pump isn't that bad now that the sound mats on there. I don't really mind cutting the doors as long as I do it cleanly. I am more worried about wiring and the door/fender joint.

Going to have to go sit and stare at the truck and ponder where to put them.

I called that one :D

:D yeah yeah... That's why I looked this morning.

Got the headlights aimed right and ran a relay for the low beams. They are a lot better then stock but still not as good as my 2500hd. When these go I will upgrade bulbs, but they will do for now.

Been fighting the front turn signal wiring for a few days but finally got it worked out except the indicators. Are they switched grounds like a check engine light? What about the high beam indicator lamp?

Just to clarify...

There are light and dark blue wires that went to the turn signal lights when they were in the stock cluster. Are these the positive side of the light or the ground?

On the high beam indicator there is a light green wire that fed the cluster. Is that the positive or ground?

You mean the dash lights or the actual turn signals on the fenders? I'm fairly certain they are not switched grounds, but mine isn't stock anymore. I have a diagram though if you need one.

Just the dash lights. I have a few diagrams from another forum but I am struggling with them

Ok, those are not switched grounds since they originally had the printed circuit feeding them. The grounds for those were all tied together on the printed circuit.

Would someone be interested in a complete trailing arm set up?
Only problem, you'd have to get it ASAP. lol

Got a few things done in the last week, still cant figure out my turn signal indicators though... I think the PO chopped out a key wire in the turn signal circuit cause the fronts only work when the headlights are on. I am thinking I will try to hook a power switch that switches the headlight power from constant to ignition hot like newer vehicles. I just dont want to put random toggle switches everywhere so it will have to look decent.

Speakers are mounted in the doors, couldnt figure out anywhere else to put them with the tank behind the seat still. It wasnt that bad to run the wires even without pulling the fenders.

Started pulling the bed apart to redo the floor. Going with some white oak barn wood and instead of the chrome or stainless strips 1" or 1.5" flat bar. It should be a lot beefier and go with the look I am going for. Put a quick coat of ebony stain on the boards tonight. Tomorrow the clear coat process begins, going to layer it on until the gallon I have is gone.

Umm, just be clear. I'm not sure if your truck is leaf or trailing arm. Wasn't advertising stuff, just wondering if you'd be interested in converting.

No worries. It's leaf and it will stay that way for simplicity. I will eventually swap in a newer disced 14ff and some beefy springs. The stock stuff is pretty beat

Been putting some time into chopping out the old bed supports and layers and layers of clear coat on the bed wood. Finally got to a point where I could weld in some new angle iron supports and tack the bed cross members back on. Tossed the wood in there and got the edges done. Still need to run the metal runners between the boards then rip it apart and put a final clear coat on the wood. Think its going to look sweet though.

Do you think seam sealer will hold up in this crack? Its about .25" at its widest maybe 3' long?

Another tech filled update... Been dd'ing it for the last couple weeks and have a few kinks to work out, but it drives pretty nice.

I have some time off coming up in a few weeks, hopefully I can get some of my ever growing parts pile installed. I had to pick up one of Kerts sweet shift knobs and I found some dog dish caps today.

Nice!

Dig the build and really like the stain on the bed boards.

Thanks for the head light write up. I'll be stealing that one... :waytogo:

Thanks guys! Slowly but surely its coming together.

I blew a chunk out of my drivers exhaust manifold gasket on the way to work today, manged to limp it back home but it wasnt happy. I knew I should just thrown out the ones that came with the headers. Any recommendations for decent manifold gaskets?
