71 C20 gets a 5.3

Alright back at it. Swapped in some new cats,so I don't smell like I shower in gas every time I drive it. I also got tired of the hood trying to fly away when I hit 70 so I found some cowl mount hood hinges from porter built. Pretty awesome setup for about the same price as a good set of stock style remans. http://www.porterbuiltfabrication.com/?p=355

Interesting
most folks that run those hinges have an airbag suspension and end up moving the wheel wells up so high that you have to remove the factory hinges.

Why did your hood want to fly off?

Also, I ordered up the same intake for my truck. Thanks for the heads up. Where, though, did you put your battery? Driver side? But how? I'm going to try to make my new passenger side battery tray work on the driver side.

The stock hinges were just beat up with weak springs so the back half the of the hood would bounce up. I looked into stock replacements and billit and all that but I thought these were pretty cool. They are nice quality too.

I had duel battery trays but they were rusted through so I got a replacement tray through summit It was pretty cheap

I found a gas shock from a Kia mini van and mounted it to the good bracket of the stock passenger hinge. Now I can get rid of my sweet pallet board hood prop.

I also hit the truck with a scotch pad and some wax. It needs atleast another coat, the paint is really dry

Hoping to get the 14ff, front suspension and new brake lines in in the next few weeks. I have a vintage air kit on the way too, we had to 105/110 days in a row... Made me bite the bullet

Nah then I have to keep them clean...

She has been running pretty damn good, been driving it 60+ miles a day. Drives like a boat, a boat with some balls. The ground pin is messed up in the drivers coil harness, I have to mess with that a bit. I had the fuel pump fall of the sending unit too, that was interesting to diagnose.

I have to do some research on fuel tanks I can put out back under the bed. I could use another 10 gallons of capacity

Yep, the little quirks.
My Byod tank is 19gal, fits nice. If you're willing to make it fit, the 25gal blazer tanks are a good alternative. They just tend to hang down a bit and need the frame notched for the filler.

I demand an update!!

Ugg, I've been sitting in front of this message screen for a while trying to remember what the hell it was I NEEDED TO KNOW. Now I can't ask you cause I can't remember. Dammit I hate that.

Ohhhhh I remember now!!!

How is that shorter column working for you? I'll be working on my '68 again here soon and the column will be going in shortly. Just wondering if the mod was worth it (free) and if the position works well.

I have been plugging away at redoing the front suspension. Got some ccp arms and chopped off the 1/2 ton ball joint cups and put on 3/4 ton stuff. Ran new stainless brake lines from inline tube, which fit great for outta the box. Just a few more part to collect before the 14ff goes out back and I am back on the road. I will post pictures when I get a chance.

I like the shorter column mod, it gets the wheel out of your chest a bit. I have twig like legs though and it can get tight getting in and out. So if you are a bigger guy a tilt column would be key. Also all the write ups I have seen on it they drill a hole for the nub on the upper mounting bracket, this isn't necessary. Just line everything up and tighten it down. The cold is thin gauge and will dent in the rights spot, you don't even have to pull the column this way. While you have the steering shaft out though toss the rag joint and go with an xj shaft or something similar.

Finished up the front today. It got new arms, stock height springs, adjustable ranchos, hubs/rotors/pads and some stainless brake lines.

Its pretty nasty up there due to a steering box/hose leak. Fixed that problem with some new AN lines. I want to redo my steering sometime soon and everything will get a generous dose of degreaser when I do.

I also got the old 60 pulled and the 14ff almost ready to go in before it started raining and I had to call it. Hopefully it will be back together next week. I have to figure out some sort of parking brake with the 14 bolt too. Not so much for legal issues but I have a gate on my driveway that is on just enough of a hill I have to shut the truck off to open/close. Pain in the ass

Hey, back to the column lol. Do you have a reverse light switch on it? If so, where did that end up landing after pushing the column down?
