Guy at work today told me he has a line on a 71 gmc 4x4 shortbed, AZ truck, no rust. He would be buying it to sell it, and if he does, It is MINE!!!

Always wanted one, and he said it is straight, and might have a lift on it. I just need to find the $$. First time in a long time I can't wait to go to work tomorrow to find out!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

"gmc 4x4 shortbed, AZ truck, no rust" equals pretty desireable truck. Is it a stepside or fleetside bed? I hope it becomes yours! Course, pics sure would be nice so we can drool over it.

Good looking truck. It should be a Rockwell T221 transfer case if it is the original t/c. Nice to see an unmolested truck!

YukonJack, thanks for the info. I thought they were all 205's in this style truck, shows what I know:confused:

Some 69 trucks supposedly had NP205's but the majority of 67-69 have the Rockwell. The 69 K5's had the NP205 or possibly Dana 20. All 70 -72 pickups would have the NP205 and the K5's will have predominately the NP205 but some Dana 20's. The SM420 was used in the 67's and I'm not sure if they were also in the 68's. 69-72's will definitely have the SM465 if manual four speed.

Funny you metioned this, I was impressed with how easy it was to put it in and out of low side, way easier than any 205 I have driven before, so it might be the rockwell, I think it does have a syncro'ed 1st, so that would make it a 465, right?

Over to the right and down for reverse is an SM465. The Rockwell has a different shift pattern than the NP205. All the way forward 2 Hi, then back to 4 Hi, then Neutral, than 4 Low all the way back until the shifter is sitting on the seat. The Rockwell shifter also is to the left side of the tranny hump, while the NP205 is more in the center of the hump or just to the right of center.

If a thread is dead like this one became, is this still considered a hi-jack of it :haha:
