'71 k502 The Misfit

A top is something the truck did not come with. I am going to order a set of body mounts especially after seeing where the forward mount is right in the middle of the foot well. Lacking a top, I think I will have to weld in some small square tube to hold everything more or less where it should be.

If you get some new door hinges you can weld up some removable bracing like Greg did in his "Might as well" build thread.

I just cut mine out as well on the drivers side and it does wobble around a bit even with the top bolted on. I'd hate to see how much it moved without it.

I spent a few hours this morning getting rid of everything in the dash and behind it. The only things that will remain under the dash that came from the factory will be the gas/brake pedals and the windshield wiper assembly. I will probably replace the heater with one of the Mojave units.

I saw how he did that in his build. I am going to take some similar steps because there is more metal to remove for sure.

I ordered some Rust Bullet and some new body mount bushings today so I can keep things moving. I hope the Rust Bullet is as good as they say it is, I used POR15 on my last project and was not that impressed.

Today my engine mount cradle from DIY4X showed up on my door step. I am definitely impressed with the product. DIY4X has redesigned this mount so you can access the oil pan with out removing the motor mounts.

Here is a picture of the switch panel I had built by 12voltguy. If you haven't had a chance to do business with the Darren (12voltguy), his customer service is amazing!

I spent some time recently smoothing the dash out for my switch panel and cb radio. I am also in the process of filling in my tail lights, marker lights and blinkers.

No, unfortunately I have been forgetting to take pictures as much as I should, I will make an effort to be better about that. Monday I should have some parts pron photos after the UPS man pays me a visit.

While I was back there I began cutting the rust out of the right and left rear corner also. I will use the metal from the fuel cell hole to patch as much as possible.

Thankfully, that fuel cell cutout will probably make a nice "patch" for the rusty spots on either side of it...

Will you be cutting out frame cross member underneath and recessing the tank into the floor?

Yes, the fuel cell will go down through the floor to about as low as the bottom of the frame. I will have to fab some structural changes on the underside to replace the function of the floor cross bracing and the rear frame cross member.

Long Enterprises was a real pleasure to do business with. Bobby Long and his staff called me at least three times throughout the process. The whole thing took less than a week from beginning to end. They also throw in some nice extras like a hat, a bunch of different decals, a cool shift knob machined from aluminum and the two tools you need (bent grease nipple and a birfield removal fork)

Now I pray I measured right.:eek1:

I have been working on filling all the tail light and marker light openings while I wait for the last few pivotal parts to show up.

[/asking nervously]

...OK, so why are you welding up the taillight holes?
