71 pickup, 52s,63s boatside etc

I feel like I Haven't even see this thing in over a year.
Im heading home for the holidays in a week and hopefully I can get some work done on it.
Plans for this trip are to finish up the boat-siding and get it all closed up.
Depending on how long that takes maybe get the 52s Installed.

Im trying to decide if I want to use a kit to do the front mounts or just build them myself.

Also any one have any experience putting 52s infront without moving the rear mount rearward? Id like to keep it where it is and just move the axle forward.

Any Thoughts?

I've done 52s up front on my '76 K10. I don't know what the differences are between '71 and '76 for the swap. But on '73-87s, a LOT of people seem to have to move the shackle mount FORWARD (not rearward, as you just stated). I, however, got away withOUT having to do that. My "52s" actually measure 55" long along the main leaf, so that's part of it. But I also have my B52 brackets mounted in the forward-most setting, and my front spring eyes sit in the forward-most hole of the B52s. My shackle angle is great too.

My front axle sits about 2-3 inches forward as well. No zero-rates or anything either. The only downside is that when the springs compress, my 6" shackles will hit the body mount brackets.

I believe that the reason for the rearward move on the 1st Gens is due to a shorter front spring but dont quote me on that. I would measure but im 2000 miles away from my truck.

This is a Picture of DIY4x B52 Kit and it includes the parts to move the rear hanger back probably around 2 inches.

I will have to call DIY and see what they say
