72 K5 "About Time". Windshield Header Bow time.

I will for certain be documenting everything. I'll show some shots of the rocker and pillar areas when I get into it. Hoping to get the garage situated and start investigating on Sunday. Today is rutgers football day. Have to meet everyone at the tailgate in an hour!!

Well its in the garage!! :woot:Ready to start. I cut the hitch off and dropped the gas tank so I could eliminate the bad gas smell.

From what you guys see, the pillars look stronger than I expected...but what concerns me is the window frame. The seam on top is pretty crappy. Do they make these parts yet? Or will this be all custom?

And that's my pup Nero checking it all out!

Plenty of work ahead...... :)

....an yes, lucky for you they now make a reproduction windshield header now. Looks like you're going to need one.

ps. Get an updated tetanus shot soon. :D

I vaguely remember somewhere you mentioning they make them now. That's a good thing! !

I'm looking forward to getting the project going!!

Ok...I do not have a picture of it yet but I was just looking under the hood and along the firewall on both drivers side and passenger there is a spot along that lip that is pretty shot. Obviously this is a water collector when loaded with debris. Anyone see this spot before? I'm sure it's not a completely unique situation I was just curious how bad some of the other member's firewalls were.

Hopefully after the wedding I am attending Saturday I will get to spend Sunday in the garage to start the disassembling process.

IIRC, if I'm thinking of the same spot, Ashman was going to take care of this before he started with the new engine stuff. I think he still has to do it though.

Yeah, I got distracted with other stuff . Still on the agenda though

Going to watch them continue the embarrassment of Michigan than this weekend I assume?

That game is going to be painful. I thought for sure michigan would always be relevant in the big 10. Props to brady hoke and Dave Brandon for ruining that for me.

Unfortunately tied up this weekend. Silly family members getting married! ! So I'll be missing the game. I'll end up in the garage on Sunday and if all goes well tomorrow with work I'll be spending monday in the garage as well!!

I am dying to get into this. All I've accomplished was cutting out the gas tank last weekend! Took all day to make the garage usable.

Off to the wedding....Only good thing is I can continue reading the mondo build threads in between heading to the bar for the next jack on the rocks.

I did get everything accomplished so I will be disassembling tomorrow and Monday. :D:D

I am sure it is not going to be anything you haven't seen before but I'll show you what I stumble on as I dig.

Good afternoon all!

I am digging away getting all removable items out of the cab. As I look into the torsion boxes I see on the drivers side what looks like a piece of re bar diagonally across the box. The other side has a much smaller smooth rod doing the same thing.

Is this an attempt at a fix? Or is there more to the torsion box?

There is one bar in each of the boxes. They were smooth in the originals on mine and the repops that I never used. I'm guessing you'll end up dropping those anyways to repair the front cab support and the four bolt area. They seem to go on all of these rigs. Somebody did repair this from the top side with the boxes on a couple of years ago, but it sure looked like a pain. IIRC the used rust bullet as I remember the silver paint on the inside of the boxes after.

Where are the pics? We like the pics.... :D

Thanks for the info! Yes it will be all coming apart like you guys did. No corners cut.

I should get pics up tomorrow! Just pulled steering column and gage cluster! :woot:

Just remember to brace those door openings if youre going deep. The Grinch build didn't do this and he found out the problem after paint when the door didn't fit anymore.
