72 K5 "About Time". Windshield Header Bow time.

I received the window header bow kit this week!

I originally wasn't to sure how the kit tied into the a pillar. Now I know....

The front piece stops at the seam where I numbered it 1. The drip edge "2" I will have to re create. And "3" ill have to recreate too. I have the old cracked windshield still to use as a gauge when I get this back together. Also, I braced the a pillars to the step up plate so it wont move as I am fighting with the 3000 spot welds.

All 5 pieces are used to make that top bow that come with the kit. 3 big ones, and the 2 smaller ones are a reinforcement piece inside the sandwich of pieces where it meets the a pillar.

Looks like I have some more creations to make:grind:

eesh, that's fugly..... ya wanna borrow my blaster, let me know.....

When I get em all separated I may take u up on that!

I might need to utilize some of the solid material from the header to make that end curve. We will see. Bachelor party next weekend so I will be in no shape to do anything Sunday except watch TV.

Quick shot of the bracing to keep me somewhat where I was. Lots of measuring. And some new parts.

The amount of work you are doing on this thing is amazing! It's good to see since all of the other guys doing big time fab on 1st gens are slacking lately *cough* norcal69, greg72 *cough*

Thanks! It will be new one day:rolleyes:

Haha. Well we know one guys excuse is legit....jumping from mezzanines.....

I don't know of anyone over here that's done the repo parts install yet for the first gen windshield header. But this guy had lots of good details you may find helpful:

It's did at first. But the frame is in pretty good shape. As well as the firewall....Hahaha honestly the structural stuff I was worried about. But I got all that back together so there isn't much left!

That corner though.... I'm going to put my patients, liver, and skills to the test for sure. Thank God for repro stuff.

Well. Time for some more reconstructive surgery. That pic with my finger in it is showing a piece that I have to make. Along with the corners of the window flange. So. I'm going to put together the new header kit and tack it in place. Then I'll start reconstructing the pieces not reproduced. This way the a pillars will stay where they belong.

you need anything, holla... I have quite the collection of dollies, hammers, clamps, and other assorted body stuff you can rummage thru anytime... not to mention use of any equip in the LAB™

Don't forget: about 5" down on the inside of each A-pillar (where the windshield gasket goes) there is a small crescent-shaped index mark that was used in the factory for aligning the individual frame pieces. If you are grafting in new stuff, those may end up being really helpful to get the alignment perfect again. :waytogo:

Ps. That's a pretty big elephant you're eating there. :wink1:

Appreciate it!! I know you are busy with Kai so it would be beneficial to get the dust off the tools!

Oh yeah it is! :eek:And thanks for sure I haven't forgotten about those little crescent guys! Slow and carefully is how I'll be going with this. That's why I took apart the old header piece by piece. Wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything.
