'72 K5 - AJ's Gray Matter Build

Those are new discs I'm putting in with the "new" axle. Haven't quite figured out the e-brake yet. Been waiting to see what Dan @ Ruffstuff was gonna come up with. Just gonna run the standard 3/4 ton calipers for now.

I bought a line loc, but i haven't put it in yet.

Update: 1/24/08 - We finally got some work done on the truck yesterday. The 8 lug swap on my D44 front went off without a hitch. The only issue we had was reassembling the donor axle with the 1/2 ton parts to sell it. Not a big concern there...it can wait.

The front springs are a completely different story. I hammered out the old frame bushings are started to grease up the new polys for the springs and the frame and realized I was sent the wrong set of bushings. FYI...front spring and shackle bushings for an '88-'91 don't have all the right sizes for a '72. I found that out the hard way . Based on the bushings that were sent (I assumed they would fit) I drilled out one of the 7/16" inch holes in each shackle to 9/16"...I was thinking 7/16" at the frame and 9/16" at the spring-eye. So...I'm dead in the water right now until I can get the right set of bushings and figure out how to handle the shackles. Worst case scenario, I can use the original wimpy front shackles until I correct the DIY4X ones.

Here's how the front end sits right now (the passenger side spring is still the 8" Superlift). I had hoped to get more done, but at least it's progress.

Not sure exactly the problem on the shackles, but I think you can get greasable bolts that are 9/16 to fit the new holes you drilled in the shackles. You can probably upgrade everything to larger bolts and be ok.

I got a kitchen pass tonight, so I went to the garage and spent a couple of hours working on the truck with a mechanic buddy. We made some good progress tonight. It's amazing what having the right parts will do for you! We got the front springs on and the axle under the truck, with tires. At this point, all four tires are on the ground. All of the "heavy lifting" is done, except for taking out the body lift.

Are you going to repaint? Looks good. Any updates?

What?? You don't like the paint? It's grown on me a lot. It will get repainted...but it's practically last on my list of to do's for the truck.

Patience ah gdass-hoppah. I ordered a set of 14" travel Bilstein 5125's today. Hopefully I'm done spending $$ for this part of the build. My buddy, who's a mechanic and a welder, and I are planning a late into the night wrench session this week to try to get the truck ready for the 4WP March Madness event on Saturday. More pics when I have them...

ah sweet man, i hope ill see you there!
the rig is looking real good now, good work.

I didn't like the paint when you first posted it with the bling rims, but it has grown on me and I like it alot. Its looking real good, well done.

Shocks came in today. Bilstein 5125s. 14" travel. 34" uncompressed.

It was a crazy week getting the truck ready for the 4WP March Madness par-tay and show-n-shine today. Lots of late nights this week. But we made it. The Blazer took 1st place in 4x4 Street Class and 1st place in People's Choice:woot:

Here's how the truck sits today:

Still need to get the body lift pulled, and put in my front shock towers and shocks. I also think I'm gonna put a cross member in the rear and inboard my rear shocks.
