'72 K5 - AJ's Gray Matter Build

That's awesome!

Though it probably won't cut down the number of people who walk up to you and ask:

"What year is your Bronco?"

:haha:

It's really all you can do...

If you correct them, you just end up looking like an arrogant douche. If you let it slide, they might eventually see the huge "CHEVROLET" stamped across the rear tailgate and realize on their own that they made a mistake!!!

:haha:

The other day while at the grocery store a guy pulls up next to me in a stock-ish jeep with his young son in the back. As they pull up I see the kid point at the Blazer and yell "I want a Jeep like THAT!". I just gave the kid a thumbs up. :)

Chevy's make the best Jeeps.

My old man calls my Blazer a "Scout". I find that the least offensive of the incorrect names.

Martin

More often than not, I just call it the truck when I'm talking about it. But, yeah, I've heard 'em all.

De-blingification.

No mas showbar.

Did the '69-'72 models have a factory roll bar?

Martin

Factory never made one. Closest was a dealer option by Hickey. It was 1.75" HREW. I'll likely get one bent up to match those specs.

The one I took out was ridiculous and typical PO nightmare. There's the remains of 4" of a chrome roll bar underneath the main hoop. Only thing attaching this bar to those legs were a couple of 1/4" self tapping screws.

Bezel for the shifters came in

Added to genuine naugahyde to finish it off

Nice work on that floor bracket AJ! :waytogo:

So what's the story with Front Panel Express? I've never heard of them... Internet CNC machine shop?

-G

Yea, I could use something like that service sometime. I sent some files to a laser cutter a while back and it was fine, but couldn't get chamfered holes or polished edges.

Their software is mostly for designing switch plates and such. Lots of canned macros and shapes. Beveled or radiused edges, countersunk screw holes, etc. They've got a handful of materials, finishes, and thicknesses as well. The software will also allow you to import CAD files.

Overall I'm happy with how it came out as well as the switch plate I did for the console.

Took the truck out for it's first roadtrip today. Weather was great this morning. The training kennel that I had my dog hunt trained at was doing their annual Dove Tuneup, so we loaded up for the 100 mile drive.

Truck did great on the drive out there. But, I have come to the conclusion that I HATE the Magnaflows. At about 60 MPH, they're not bad. But at 70+, they got an obnoxious pulse or beat to them. The truck held 80 MPH nicely the whole drive.

Jackson taking a break in the shade. Suffice it to say, there weren't any other K5s around.

Annnnnndddddd....that's where the fun ended. Loaded up to head home, and at the end of the farm road (the truck wasn't even warmed up yet) 3rd gear in the 700r4 let go. 1st and 2nd appeared to be ok, it would upshift to 3rd, and it was like I was in neutral. We limped the truck into the closest town and decided with 90 miles to go, a tow was the only option.

Time to give a shout out to our resident tranny expert Greg Ducato and see what he thinks my options are.
