Still no e-brake yet. Just haven't had time to figure that one out yet.

I need one of those too! ( e- brake that is) I am leaning towards one mounted to my 205 output... I know I have seen them for sale and a few blokes that have fabbed thier own?

I was adjusting the rear float on the carb. As near as I can tell some gas pooled up in the dish of the 7-8 intake runner. Distributor or a plug wire must have sparked it.
Update 03/03/09: Got a little help from one of the guys at the shop tonight. The engine is out and the truck is ready to go to the body shop.

Would now be a good time for me to campaign that you change the color of the engine block from purple-nurple, to a nice vintage Chevy orange???

In keeping with the colors on the valve covers, the engine will get a couple of coats of red. If all works out as I envision, the engine compartment will be mostly red and black.

Damn, AJ. Didn't think you were or needed to do all that removal for the fire damage or was the fire just a little "spark" to get you motivated to do the things you are now doing because of the fire? What body work are you having done?
Only body work is repainting the hood, patching the firewall hacks, and repainting the entire firewall.
Pulling the engine out gives me an opportunity to repaint it and will make the fuel injection install easier.
Like blowing the tranny last summer, the engine fire just advanced plans that I already had for the truck.
Update 03/06/09: Finally off to the body shop.
Time to start ordering parts to get the engine setup.

How long do you expect the body shop to have it?
I would guess about 2 weeks. I'm not in any hurry. The insurance estimate missed several things, so he's gotta deal with them. And he's got other stuff in the shop too.
UPDATE 03/13/09: Took a drive out to the body shop after work to check out the progress. Firewall patches and paint work are done. He did a really great job. The dish on the firewall has been opened up a bit to give me more room for the engine. Hood and cowl are prepped for paint...they're working on getting a good silver match.

yep, that looks great!
It's almost impossible to see the details of black paint in a photograph, but I'll trust that it looks good in person, and wait to see it in silver so I can see how they dealt with the firewall issues.
Gotta be a good feeling not to see the burn damage anymore.....like they say in those ServePro commercials it's "like it never happened..."

Looks like good progress - nice to see the body shop getting right after it - the body shop I choose just kind of set on my project for way too long.

Actually....the firewall is staying black. Works into the plans for the future...
That said, the body guy took pics as he progressed. I'll post a few when I get them from him.
