'72 K5 - Greg's @MightAsWellK5 Build

I was trying to explain to the GF the other day, how something as simple as Having The Right Wheels can make a truck look period-correct, even if the rest is all crazy-ass re-engineered. Obviously my truck isn't on the level of yours, but people still look at it and know it's a 70's square body, even with the smurf camo paint and the cutting and whatever else. I'd like to think that white wagon steelies contribute considerably to that.

She does look good, and I'm looking forward to the day you start posting pix of your truck more assembled, with the body panels hung.

(Does your kid ask you if it's a Transformer and it turns into a jungle gym? :haha: )

Wheels really have a huge impact on the whole "vibe" of a vehicle build.... I've been building this truck for so long with the H2s and just kind of "imagining" that they weren't there. But now being able to see it the way it was always intended to look is a huge step forward....

Charlie doesn't really know much about Transformers yet, but he definitely is getting more and more impatient for an actual drive in this truck. :waytogo:

You couldn't level those bow ties on the hub caps for the pic? :rolleyes:

I took about 50 photos last night, and I've got plenty with the bowties in that perfectly horizontal orientation! :haha:

I kept pushing the truck forward and backward to get different angles as the sunlight was fading, so they kinda got "out-of-sync" by the end. Don't worry.....it was definitely on my mind the whole time, my OCD is still intact.

Funny thing about sheetmetal, it's one of the faster things that I can add and it will change the look of this truck just as much as those new wheels did!!!! :waytogo:


It's tough to be so patient and do things in the correct sequence. Every once in a while it's fun to just roll it outside and take a few photos. :)

Oh, I hear ya. Sometimes being buried deep in the onion you can be doing a ton of work, but really not have much visual payoff.

All kidding aside, you've got to be getting reasonably close to playing with sheetmetal again soon.
 
Are you going to use those hub caps, or the period correct ones?

The wheels look great.

Hubcaps are such an easy item to mess with that I'll probably just buy a couple of sets and play around with it. I'll get a real 1972-style "Hershey's Kiss" set with the blue painted bowtie and banding....and I'll paint up this set to change the gold/yellow bowtie and banding (which I think was more of a 73+ up thing) to the blue color. I like the simplicity of these caps more... but the purists might complain at a car show. LOL :)

From that picture it looks like a tube buggy with brand new old Chevy wheels and a firewall. :saweet:

What did you ever decide for the fuel tank?
 
I have a set in my garage i think, They came with my 72' highlander, I don't remember if they're 73+ or not. They live next to my NOS hickey Dana 44 diff cover.

Truck looks awesome, people are just gonna scratch their heads.
