72 K5 - IGOR's build thread - 6/12/2017- Update!

YOU NEED A TRANSMISSION!

The weight of the engine is pulling it down in the back behind the motor mounts. I'll bet you the engine would sit more level with the transmission installed. :deal: that should resolve the interference on that one side.

Failing that, modify the engine crossmember to shift the engine 1/4" to the side. Measure from the crank pulley bolt to the inside of each framerail.... You may not be "dead nuts" centered as it sits currently anyway....

My two Lincolns.... :D

So update (15 months later!) I have been working on getting a shop completed in my backyard. I technically broke ground on it this past Sept - but shop won't be completed until Spring / Summer of this year. I broke ground early due to an opportunity with a local business taking said dirt - 315 cubic yards!

My uncle (who owns a dump truck) came and helped over a four day period the weekend after labor day. We rented an excavator and a skidsteer (too small of an excavator - mind you) and worked our a$$es off for four days!

Shop will be 36x44x15 eaves and be in my backyard.

Below are some pics!

Equipment dropped off:

My Aunt & Uncle show up in his truck with Jeep to drive around Portland area with (Dana 60s narrowed up from a 92 F-350, a 5.3L w/ 4L60e & NP205 - and glass packs) :D

Tearing out the old cracked patio:

My son helping!

Four loads of gravel in driveway

Spreading gravel for new patio

Gravel roughly spread for patio

Looking into backyard from rooftop (ignore whacked out roofline) - Blazer is sitting in back right corner where shop will be

And just to keep this Blazer related, here is my 4L80e & NP205 back from rebuild - FINALLY (dropped it off in July of 2011)

Two weeks after the dirt is removed, I get a love note from the local county. One of my neighbors has turned me in for removing 50+ cubic yards of material without a permit. I always intended to get a permit - but did not realize I needed to do it for dirt removal on my own property - welcome to 2014 land use laws!

Haha, so excited to get an update in the ya did it 5 times, Huh... :haha:

My guess it was something to do with the down time, but still funny.

New shop sounds great. :waytogo: I like the tow bar on the Blazer. That's the only way mine moves around too. :doah:

Duplicates were a side-effect of the CK5 shutdown yesterday. Lots of threads have them.... Looks like I will be doing a lot of "pruning" today.

At first I thought it was a bad case of "lazy quoting" by members. I was about to drop the hammer around there! :D

:D - You know - it figures - I go to update my thread 15 months later and it is the exact same time the site is down. I was going into withdrawal not being able to check the site - good thing craigslist wasn't down too!:D

I built that towbar last year - works awesome - just don't go too fast!

Looking awesome. That is going to be a huge shop.

What plate line are you going for?

Extremely jealous here in the granite state!

Wow.

My plate line will be 15' Shop is 36x44x15.
That's going to be awesome! I built my shop over the last 2 years and mine is 24x24x12. I've had reason to wish each of those dimensions was bigger, but alas in my area that was as big as they'd let me go.

Just build two of them then! :D

Remember to put in some nice shelving, counters, and other organizational features in to your garage.

And by the way, I am betting there is a lot of competition on this site for the SLOWEST build ever. Present company included. It feels pretty good to start making progress again after a long hiatus. Then, you see somebody whip one of these K5s into prime shape in about 6 mos. There should be a slow build support group for guys with young kids around here. :thumb:
