I love how the bed is sitting on the side of the yard, then 2 pics later it's all in. makes it look so easy. ;)

good point i'll describe how the column cuts worked so if anyone were dumb enough to try this at home they can.

i cut down the door jam around the top or the column, and down the back side. with a 4" cut off wheel.

Then i measured from door jam cut to Center of Axle (COA) and it was 37" from there go to the bed and measure from COA 37" towards the front of bed. mark. make sure the bed is level and string line a mark from top to bottom.

then measure top of the column lengh and width and transfer to bed, then bust out the cut off wheel and sawzall and go to town

lift the bed onto the frame and presto. look up behind the passenger seat column it's not quit lined up yet still needs a bit of trimming to sit flush. and a million tacks to finish it off.

then it's onto sheet metal replacement around the wheel wells and paint!. starting to save for my lift (modest 4"lift), hydrolic assist steering, tires. might fab up some winch bumpers, box in the frame... all that stuff that slowly takes time n money.

nicely done so far, ambitious project for sure...kudos..

i'm just replacing parts on a 73, relatively straight forward... the link above, that is a thread worthy of praise. he's handbuilding a trail rig that looks like a 1st gen. straight up, homemade, garage engineered, diet coke and pizza fueled awesomeness! a damned inspiration, that thread should have "eye of the tiger" playing in the back round

scrounging loot to get a membership (most of my money goes to the bills wife or K5) so what i'm getting at is i'm currently not able to post in many threads) and this should really get posted elsewhere (mods if this is out of line please delete this post)

anyone here around the Finger Lakes Region of NY? always looking for wrenching/beer drinking buddies. need a extra set of hands to drop that 203 or help install your new lift, give me a shout. or if you free come on over to help me lift this heavy a$$ bed so i can box and paint the rear half of the frame then secure the bed back to the frame. I pay handsomely in Steak and Beer.

got the badging cleaned up. a rough sanding. hit it with rustoleum semi gloss black in a areosolcan. then dipped the end of a foam sanding block in silver rustoeulm quart can, ever so gently and lightly dabbed on top of the emblem. silver only hits the high spots and comes out pretty even. not too much paint so that it drips and not too much pressure so the it runs

got all badges done this way. both the K5's, both the Cheyenne's and the Chevrolet across the back. again it's a 10/50 job

Like grandpa says, Its good enough for the girls we date :thumb: i like it though, good idea.

bed is back off to begin work on the back half of the frame. sanding, painting, repalcing fuel hoses, sending units, hockey puck body mounts...

as usual a block of pics up by Monday or so.

Wow
I like fourth the it would have been scrap metal if I had seen it and I grew up in NJ.

Good job on saving it. :waytogo:
