73 K20....crossmember time

Yep, pop the oil cap off or the vent port off the valve cover and see if you feel positive pressure. Need to do a compression test either way....

OK. I'm gonna do a few things to it tomorrow and see what I get. It had wicked piston slap...Maybe i cracked a ring?

If that's the case then on the trailer she goes lol. It's a 2500 dollar car at most if it was running right.

Sorry about your DD, but that rollbar is really tight to the corners. Really awesome on that.

Thanks man!

The dd has been doing weird things. One thing gets fixed and immediately something else pops up. I get rid of things when they do that. It's not saving me any money or time at this point. Sort of contemplating buying a 2010 ish dodge diesel and just dealing with one vehicle. It makes me insane when I have to work on two vehicles and try to build a truck, redo a house and go to school at the same time.

I spent 500 bones for two new tires on the truck last week which stings a bit but then the oh so reliable Honda is shitting it's bed...makes me feel like rolling it down a hill.

Yeah I'm happy with the cage so far. Going to order some more dom tube tonight and actually prop a seat in it to see where the harnesses need to go!

Do a compression check and take it from there.

We use to buy engines from attarco, just noticed they closed down. I can ask some of my ricer buddies who they buy from these days.

Forgot to text you back. She blew 150 psi across the board. I was impressed to say the least. I believe at this time that the pcv valve was stuck in some way and oil has collected in the intake runner. The pcv seems to be on #3 or at least in line with it...thus 3 was smoking and fouled plug.

I started it. Ran well. It's still smoking but I think a lot of oil is in the intake runner. This may also be why the big spew of oil came out as the pcv location is sort of downhill. At least that's what I'm suspecting so far. I need to go smash on it to see if I can clear the oil out.

That's the route I would go if I ever built a truck.

It's a compromise because you loose some bed space but you gain some clearance in the ass of the rig. I'm thinking the space between the bed sides and the tank could be made into storage compartments for tools, spare parts, compressor, fluids etc.

have you decided where the fuel tank is going to end up? I've pretty much decided to cut a hole in the bed (behind the axle) and have it halfway recessed in the floor between the frame rails.

Yeah that's exactly how I thought of doing mine. It's really the best option. You'd end up in weird fashion to have the tank against the cab area with a toolbox elsewhere...seems ass backwords and sinking it in is very minimal without hunting one of the most important crossmembers.

The tank is quite the ugly duckling. Maybe down the road I'd make a stainless cover for it so it's not so hideous and if something crashes into it it doesn't leave a dentist in the tank....could also insulate that a bit for funs.

Need some kind of strike plate for the bottom of the tank. I was thinking maybe just sink it a bit past the frame rails.

At the back of the tank It's 8.5" from the bottom frame rail to the bottom of the bed with 1" body lift. It's 7.5" at the front of the tank. So you can pretty much have the tank halfway in the bed and be above the frame rails. Your k20 rails may be different though.

This is a 10" box for shits and grins
