73 k5 blazer restoration-Transmission is in, Time for wiring

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e205/superman2054/100_0477.jpg

Actually, I have that same cross-member with heat shield on the frame I'm prepping for my blazer.
The heat shield is for transfer case mount.
It the only one beside yours that I have seen. I usually see them with out the heat shield.

This 73 is bone stock besides the fuel system and shocks :D. Pics of heatshield on the frame if you can im curious to see what that looks like .

Hopefully I have a pic for you tomorrow night.
I have to pick up my camera from my brother's house and drive to where I have my frame.

I just looked under my 74 and the x-member with the heat shield is the one mounted towards the front of the truck with the heat shield on the driver side

Its not that big of a deal you dont gotta go through all that trouble was just curious to how you could have a heatshield on the frame.

oooh thanks man that will definitley help with mounting the tranny/transfer case.

need some recommendations on a torque converter for this rig.
approx 400 hp 350 4 bolt small block

73 k5 blazer turbo 350 transmission

10.75 small bolt pattern for the torque converter

np203 transfercase

looking for towing capability and daily driver use

Also on a budget soooo.... :dunno: what do you guys think

got a timing issue figured out on the motor today and prepped the transfercase for paint (not my idea) and finally mated the transfer case and transmission properly with rtv and the gasket. Father son projects go painfully slow.

Sorry I'm a little late, but here you go.

well i pulled all the A.C condensor stuff and the blower motor so its ready for an aftermarket unit as the stock unit was just taking up a ****load of space. Was supposed to drop in the transmission/transfercase assembl today and finish the top end of the motor but my dad compulsively complained about the heat/way i was doing things and was an asshole in general. Extremely ****ty build day not at all interested in finishing this project with him if this is any indicator for the future. Somethin to pray about i guess :)

if i can get some good weather updates will be coming

Got a torque converter from scott (4x4high) and the tranny/transfer case are just sittin under the truck ready to go up. My dad bought a motorcycle jack which he thinks will help get it up, thats To be determined. Once i get the drivetrain in then i should have nothing but clean up,paint and light rust repair since the thing has sat so damn long.

i got tomorrow off work (technically today) and im thinkin ill get a little somethin done on this project. Its starting to get rust in the rockers and i really wanna get this thing running before the rust repair gets even worse (this thing started out rust free). I've been scared to install the tranny transfer case because i keep thinking theres something i need to do with the lines before i install them but i cant find anything in the books to suggest either way.

So my question is can i go ahead and bolt up my th350/203 combo and hook stuff up later or no?

If anyone is feeling extra nice today, What/where are all the lines required for a th350/203 to operate.

Should only be a vacuum line to the modulator, kick down cable and cooler lines. I don't see how any of those could be a problem with the tranny installed.

doin a good job so far.you can definitely bolt everything in and do the lines and cables later.you should have a few inches on either side of it to get those in later.at least there would be soem progress then.its hard to say this ias your project when your dad keeps interjectiong.but,it is nice that he wants to help and the time you spend doing it together will be worth it in the end.some guys like me never get that chance.he may see something that you dont when you are putting something together as well.and coming here 2 ck5 will get you through the rest.good project and dont get burnt out on it too fast.

Sweet, Well i finally got everything figured out on installing the tranny, once i have access to the passenger side (suburban is there atm) i should be bale to get the thing bolted up in no time. Appreciate your continued support.

Thanks, This is a shared project with my dad and i. So far he has helped with his money and experience and been extremely burdensome with his hoarder tendencies so we never have garage space and his unwillingness to work on the vehicle or let anyone else work on it. Thank god its the only project i share with him .

Got the rivets outta the crossmember bracket this morning before work and my buddy managed to grab a pretty cool action shot. It was my first time really working with a cutting wheel outside of my occassional experiences in school. It started out really scary and i was flinching a bit and overall very akward and inaccurate, But i quickly became aquainted with it and was able to be very preciise towards the end cutting off rivet heads and such. Also had to overdrill the holes to fit the big ol grd 8 bolts we bought to replace the rivets so lots of changing drill bits and akward angles. Overall great experience with fabricating tools.

Im going to have this tranny/t case at least bolted up before my dad gets back on friday so hopefully i can drag him into gettin that motor done already so i can throw it in there. All is done except the top end and hes got countless motor rebuilds under his belt while i have none so needless to say thats on him although i look forward to hookin it up :P.

We'll guys i hate to admit but the truck beat me tonight. I just finished wrestling with it for 5 hours. In retrospect i spent too much time trying to make a poor harness job on the tranny/tcase work. My problem was i couldnt get the transfercase adapter the 2 inches back i needed no matter what because the cherry picker i was using through the pass. door was reaching through the t-chase shifter hole which was simply not big enough. I think the way to do it since the 203 is so akward and heavy is seperate the th350 and 203 then mount the 203 crossmember and all and spline the tranny right into the front of it and bolt it together. I'd appreciate thoughts, tips and tricks. Im going full bore with dad gone and unless someone says differently ill be waking up early before work tomorrow (today) to seperate the 2 and get the transfercase bolted up then proceed to do the transmission. Heres some pics of one of my countless attempts to make a bad idea work.
