This is my 73 K5
I have wanted one since I was 8 years old.
My uncle had one when I was a kid and told me when I turned 16 he would let me have it.

I spent so much time sitting in that Blazer in his driveway dreaming of all the offroad adventures I was going to have in it.

Fast forward a 7 years and he sells it. UGGG! I was heart broken.

Fast forward another 25 years to 2013. I have looked at hundreds of Blazers but never found one I wanted to buy.
Until I see this one.

Aside from the lift and the dual exhaust it is totally stock untouched.
I have oil change and maintenance records dating back to 1973.

This truck is all matching and so untouched I consider it a survivor.
So the plan is to make this a big 4X4 how I remember from my childhood.

I will try to document what I do with photos.
So far the plans are:
ORD Steering brace
ORD Shackle flip
Part time kit (it has lockouts but the case is still fulltime)
fix the minor rust

Here we are the day I brought it home

Next are some new Tires

Did not fit in the garage so unfortunately the cool roof rack had to go and I was not digging the black wheels so swapped back the Rally wheels.
I have gone through the carb and all the fluids, replaced 1 u-joint and she is ready for a first outing.
Here we are today on our first spring outing. Logged 65 miles today mostly backroads and a couple 2 tracks.

Beautiful Blazer! I like the rally wheels MUCH better! Looks like a really fun truck to drive.

looks beautiful just the way it is, love it

take care of it
(enter Dueling) "don't cut any of it!" :D

Looks much better with the rallies.

Don't cut, don't drive in the salt :thumb:

On the agenda for today.

Extend the exhaust so it exits outside the bottom of the fenders.
It is about 4" short right now right below the tailgate. Yesterdays ride proved that sitting at a traffic light the fumes are filling the cab. due to the gap at the lower tailgate and bottom of the bed.

Oh and the wife wants her Jeep ready to drive too.

Pull the damn top off that thing!

.....there's no point owning a convertible version if the top never comes off.

Trust me, one sunny day with the top off and it will spoil you for anything else. :waytogo:

Don't worry the top will be off soon enough.
It was sunny today but it only got up to 50.
Between yesterday and today we put over 100 miles on it and that would not have been possible with the top off.

Got the ORD steering brace on and tailpipe extensions.

No more fumes and I can honestly say the steering feels tighter with the brace.

Thanks for all the kind words guys.

I am going to take it to a carb shop next week.

Driving around town its fine but after a run on the expressway it does not want to idle. Have to leave my foot just touching the pedal to keep it running.

The plugs are white so I am thinking since its from Colorado its prob jetted for high altitude and running lean here in MI.
I know the Quadjet has a Hot Idle valve that gives more air when its hot but maybe I am so lean this extra air is messing me up?

So I have discovered a problem with my lift and need advice.

It seems my front springs are too long for the stock shackles.
See the photo, the springs are hitting the frame.

If I put longer shackles the front will be higher?

It looks to me like the bushings are shot, your upper shackle bolt looks way off center?

Nice rig by the way, I dig full verts.
