Picked it up for $1500.00 , been looking for 4 yrs for a K5 . It ran and drove , but it need wiring work , tons of little things . Its a 1984 Chevy 305 engine . Worked on blinkers in steering column ,cleaned the bed out , and found a trap door to the gas tank . Took all seats out , lift kit this week 4 in , tires and wheels later this week . Worked on engine for hrs !! Loose bolts , hot wires bare ! , replaced bulbs , lots of TLC . Worked on starter for like 3 hrs , had it tested , shimmed , was SICK of it !! Bought a different starter made for a 305 , looks different , works PERFECT . SO lots of little things but I am still HAPPY

Looking good

How deep you going to go into it? Looks like a some rust needs to be addressed. What's the overall plan?

Welcome to the madness.

Previous owner replaced the quarter panels and one door and both fenders , but he did not prime or paint them :dunno:. But the only " holes " in body are inside cab . Not bad to some of the pics , I have seen on this site :eek1:. On the holes , cut it back to good metal , weld in homemade sheet metal, fiber glass over , then rhino line the inside . Going to sand the crap out of the bed , then rhino every thing inside the cab floor ! The tail gate will need to be replaced or re skinned . My crank is good inside tailgate , but the window tray is rusty and laying in bottom . It will never be a show truck , just want a weekend rig to cruise in .

Gotcha. I dove into my '74 headfirst and now its in pieces on my garage floor. It's coming along but sometimes I wish I would have taken the weekend rig route vs. the build it from the ground up approach. Keep the pics coming!

At my buddies shop now . I am helping him some . But paying him to do most .
It's MY K5 forever now !!!!
$$$$$$$$

ORD sway bar disconnects and heavy duty front shackles. Bolt on steering box brace, Check frame for cracks around steering box.

I would ditch the sway bar completely. mine rode significantly better on the rough country springs with out the swaybar binding the suspension.

Previous owner put new steering box and braces

that's not rust on frame , its like a spray on crap . The frame looks good . Its just surface rust . I am going to blast and paint , one day .

Dude, you've got some work to do on rust if you want this thing to last.

It does look like CANCER in the pic ! But its ALL good !!!! I would have NEVER bought if frame was bad !

Why not use the rallys? 99.9% of aftermarket wheels look worse.
