74- Project K20 "Cummins Swap"

Spent some time on it this weekend pulling the head and cleaning up the motor for a fresh coat of paint.

I was real surprised how clean the tops of the pistons were and how little wear there seemed to be (you can still see the cross hatching in the cylinders) #3 was a little black but not bad at all.

I am going to call around this week for a place to machine my head for O rings, clean it up crack check it and put in some 60# valve springs.

Tonight i ordered

KDP kit
ARP head studs
Denny T pin
3200 spring
Set of 60# valve springs

Should be here by next week so if i find a place to do my head i should have it all back together in a couple of weeks.

Looking good! Its not enen mine and i cant wait to see it put back together and in the truck!

THIS!, I love this build. Something about just pullin it apart in the street and puttin it back together with a cummins in it excites the hell outta me. Really shows you dont need a fancy shop to do some fancy work :waytogo:

No updates as of now. The head is at the machine shop getting cleaned up for machine work right now.

I've been super busy with work and i am in the process of buying a house so hopefully i will have a shop/garage of my own pretty soon!

I have been very lucky my truck hasn't been towed by now sitting out in the street in the condition it's in!

Well i know it's been awhile since i've updated but i finally got the transmission and transfer case!! I ended up going through a guy on Ebay that rebuilds trannys and t cases for stuff like this all the time. I paid a little more than i would have liked to but it came all rebuilt, exactly what i wanted and it's even got oil in it already!

Setup is a Dodge NV4500 29 spline with a Dodge NP205 mated to it. now i just need a clutch and the clutch slave and im in business.

My head is still at the machine shop

I need to get on them cause they have had it for about three months and the only thing they have done is hot tank the dammed thing! Once i get that back ill be ready to throw it all back together and start fitting things up.

I know! It seems like everything i contract out to anyone anymore i get F***ED on! you can't give your money away anymore.

:waytogo: , Im focking amazed your rig hasnt gotten towed yet.

It almost did! I finally came home one day and had a 72 hour notice on the window. Just pushed her into the driveway and havent had a problem since.

I just bought a house though and it has a big yard with side yard access so hopefully in the next couple years i can build a shop but for now i will continue to build it in the driveway.

If it were mine I'd go pick the head up, pay them for the tank job and go somewhere else. I wouldn't want a bunch of knuckle heads that take 3 months to hot tank something doing precision machine work on my head.
