I need some advice on the shocks...

Stock springs, no lift, I want it to ride like a Cadillac, and take the forest roads at speed. I was thinking Bilstein, but they only have a 4600 series in the size I need.

As measured, flexed out in the ditch across street, plus I added 1/2" to travel on both compressed and extend. No actual wheelin at this point:

Front= 12.5 compressed, 18 extended

Rear= 15 compressed, 22 extended

Any help appreciated.

Flexed in the ditch, actual shock measurements (Center of eye-eye)...

LF stuff 13.25
RF stuff 13
LF droop 17
RF droop 16.5

LR stuff 16
RR stuff 17
LR droop 20
RR droop 21

Fred Pierce back in da house! :waytogo:

Welcome back buddy!

as for the caddy ride you want, I would say springs will make more of a difference than shocks. What kinda budget you working with on this? I'd consider Deaver, ORD (Alcan) or the like with some decent monotube shocks. Remote resi would be a good idea if you're blazin the fire roads at speed for any length of time...shock fade will become an issue.

Check "sponsoredbydad"'s build thread...a first gen that isn't lifted much (or at all) and does very well on the desert stuff.

Hey Rene and Greg! Good to see you guys are still around:pimp: Yup, I'm back- hopefully I'll be done with this Blazer in a couple of months, and drive it out to Blazer bash this year.

It's been awhile since I've fiddled with leaf springs, I've forgotten most of it. I need to call Stephen and get his .02. As far as budget, I don't mind spending some dollars to get the ride I want. I just don't feel like doing a bunch of fabrication

Cut the fenders a bit and tested it out...

Front tires don't hit the fenders, but they do just caress the inside wheel well.

Not quite happy with the fitment at the tailgate, I'll add some velcro to make it a bit better, but oh well.

Swapped out the SM465 mainshaft from 10 spline to 32 spline. Mounted my Lomax 205 to the trans- Thanks Stephen for the spacer!

Twin sticked it using my old triple stick doubler shifters- with some bootyfabulous fab work. That was a pain.

New driveshafts. Heading out today for a shakedown!!!

Pics soon...

Never seen this one before. I am also interested in a bump.

I totally forgot about this thread, thanks for reminding me you guys.

Added an M8000 and fab'd up a mount based on Nick's (MosesBurb) design. Worked out sweet, thanks Nick.

I needed more lift than stock, and a better ride, so I called on Stephen and Chris at ORD to hook a brother up. Alcan 2 and 3 inch springs, Bilstein shocks, HD shackles, greasable bushings and new body mounts. The body mounts were a real pain. I was covered in rust from rattling, torching, beating and grinding 40 years of poo. All good now though...

Did a tune up, plugs, filter, cap, rotor. Started hearing some ticking sounds, thought it might have been an exhaust leak. Tightened up the headers, but nope. Pulled the valve covers and found the # 8 exhaust rocker loose. Crap. #8 E and #2I lobes were gone on the cam. Weird- usually the lobes fail very soon after break in, not 20K miles later??? Maybe a crappy cam (Federal Mogul). Replaced with a Crane cam/lifters/adjustable roller timing set. Degree'd in the cam at 104 (Cam card called for 105). Runs great.
