My dad has a 1976 gmc jimmy no recent work done and everything was functioning as normal and now when he turns the key now there is no power when key is turned on was just hoping you guys might be able to point me in the right direction to start looking

could be several things, did you work on it recently? blown fuse, starter wires broke off, alternator wire lose or disconnected. ignition module on the column could go out.

Haven't had a chance to look at it yet just looking for some ideas and I planned on checking obvious stuff like fuses ect.

Check the fusible links, I had the exact same problem on my 76 blazer and it was a blown fusible link, mine was the one on the firewall that comes off the junction block but there is another one down by the starter and I think there might be one more but I'm not sure where it is.
