76 K5: Megasquirt EFI, Electric Fan, and ICON Coilovers

Maybe I'll leave it that color then... I have a can of gray tractor paint in my garage that was gonna go on there, but maybe I'll try to spruce the current paint up a bit and call it good...

/\ Me too. shit green is a great color.. suits you pretty well. I asked your wife she agrees :)

Leave the color.

BTW very nice. I used to be totally against any kind of radius arm setup but they work really well.

Hopefully be doing my Jimmy this time next year. But with just coils

Thanks! The radius arms have their downsides, for sure. Biggest being the pretty extreme caster changes throughout the range of travel... But that same caster change is beneficial for the driveshaft, didn't put as bad of angles to the u-joints as some other setups. I personally am only running a true radius on the passenger side right now, and just the lower link in the driver's side, allows for crazy flex without binding. My eventual plan is to put the other upper in, with a sleeve built in to it that I can pin for when I want it to not be too flexy, but can pull the pin when I need movement...

Not trying to rain on the parade but rather give you a heads up on where the train is headed.... I think you're going to find a crap ton of roll steer when you get to drive it. We played with a radius arm system on my '88 burb for a little while that had less arm angle that yours and the roll steer was even scary for me. It was a bit more top heavy than a K5 but ease into cornering with it. A big fat swaybar fixed it for highway manners.

Thanks for the heads up, will definitely keep an eye on that on the maiden. The direction that the build is currently heading, I doubt it will see much highway time. Probably end up being trailered from home to trailhead, just because the family is more comfortable in the tow vehicle for road trips... I know I can add some roll stiffness by putting in the upper link on the driver's side... Just haven't gotten that far yet. This whole thing is an experiment to me, I know designs will change as I find issues with it. Once again, thanks for the info though!

Any updates? How is it riding?

We might test this weekend.. @secutright has been working his butt off!

We'll know more soon, sorry for the delay in updates, between an injured back, and the demands of work, haven't had much time to work on it... I finally got all the stuff for my rear shock mounts cut, upper shock mounts are welded up, now just to mount everything in the truck. Also have some little last minute items, such as front limit straps, shock tower cross brace, finish bleeding rear brakes, and final bolt check. As long as my week didn't go to hell, should be easy for a shakedown this weekend.

On that note, here's a tiny update... Finally got around to drawing my rear shock mounts in cad and getting them off to the CNC cutter. Here's the pile of parts that showed up at my door 2 days later.

And getting the upper mounts tacked together.

And final welds completed. Hope to get everything mounted up between tonight and tomorrow night...

And as a precursor, I know that my shocks won't be mounted in a way that will introduce a bit of a falling rate, but this is going to be temporary, as I'm linking and going to coil overs in the rear this coming winter.

Sorry to hear about the back, hope it's better. Look forward to hearing how the blazer handles :burnout:

It's late, and I don't have time to post pics right now, but the blazer is back on the road! @sreidmx has been up here helping me all day, and we finally got her moving again! We just got back in from a 2 hour shakedown, and we mobbed the crap out of it. Nothing broken, found a need for a few jam nuts, but it's seemingly very solid. Handling is beautiful, steering is rock solid. Got it up to 60 on the surface streets coming back in from the trail, very good mannerisms. Actually surprised us both... I've been in trucks with much smaller amounts of lift, that handled way worse... Will post pictures tomorrow, for now I'm off to bed, been a very busy day... Big thanks again to @sreidmx!!!

Good to hear it all went well! looking forward to the pics

So, here's some photos. Unfortunately I don't have any running photos since we were driving around the middle of the desert at midnight last night... But here's some construction pics at least...

Up on jacks so I have room to weld without playing contortionist around a 37" tire...

Doing some TIG welding on the bench, getting parts prepped up.

Welding in rear shock mounts. Loving the new Hobart 190 I picked up this week...

Lower shock mounts. Please don't flame my booger welds too bad, my uphill MIG skill is taking a while to regain... Probably doesn't help that I'm learning a new machine at the same time... For what it's worth, they didn't rip off despite us beating the living shit out of them on a very nasty dirt road...

Upper shock box mounted in.

They're finally in! I've been waiting months to complete this step...

Obligatory front suspension photo, just because I love it so much!

Heading out the the trail at 10:30PM, and realized I needed gas. Also, it's photographic proof that it did leave my driveway!

Once again, big thanks to @sreidmx, you've been an awesome help and a good soundboard to keep my head level when I had some harebrained ideas... Now we need to finish your truck!

My plans for now are to do little things like seats and carpet elimination, weatherstripping, comfort items to convince the family to take rides with me. Big rear suspension plans for the end of the year though...
