76 K5: Megasquirt EFI, Electric Fan, and ICON Coilovers

I hate shaving too. What's the reach on that bucket truck? We have a 79 C70 with an old 50 something body on it. I think it's around 60'? Sucks when you are straight up and you break over center and free fall for a couple feet. I bet yours doesn't do that lol. Nice work man. I'll be watching this one!

Weak sauce

We need bucket truck drifting

Ha, these dang trucks are so loaded down with California emissions crap it's not even funny... I've driven faster mopeds.

We use 64' buckets for distribution work. And they do have a little float when you knuckle over, takes some getting used to for sure... I'm still not too fond of the buckets, I'd just assume climb everything if my knees weren't bad...

Got a little more work done last night.

Finally got a better cross-engine brace built.
Unfortunately I suck at this when I'm rushing, and I was rushing last night... Made it a half inch too short, so I sleeved in a piece of 1.5" .25 wall to lengthen it. Then, upon installation, I realized that it almost touches my thermostat housing again, posing the same risk my earlier brace did.
But looking at the new intake manifold I just received, I don't think the brace is going to work at all with it, so we'll just have to rebuild it. For now I'm going to just swap my other tstat housing on that's a lower profile, and remove my CLT sensor if necessary.

Welds aren't my prettiest, my stupid cheap HF welding helmet is crapping out on me, not darkening until a second or 2 after I strike the arc, sometimes it won't at all, so I was really flying blind on a couple of these...

Also got some fun boxes yesterday.

Can't wait to install this and some headers...

More driveshaft grinding today, and putting my new wheels and tires on the truck. Maybe even take it out for a quick trip if time permits...

Some success today! Got my new wheels and tires swapped on, got the travel I wanted out of my front driveshaft, ghetto limit straps adjusted for new travel, shock reservoirs mounted... Taking it it for a test drive once the wife gets up from her nap.

Now to get some real limit straps ordered and on the way.

Got to take it for a quick little test run today. Got my caster and toe adjusted correctly finally, seems to be handling great. I have noticed the cursed frame flex around the steering box, so I'll be getting the ORD box brace very soon. I'm loving the tires on the road, very smooth, not as loud as I was expecting for a big MT tire. Off the road, handled wonderfully in the dirt, mobbed like a mad man through whoops and ruts, the truck took them all in stride. The coilovers still amaze me... It took me a little while to find the right rock to test the flex out on...

After a little searching, I found a suitable rock. for my purposes. Please forgive my couple of selfies... I usually hate them, but I'm really proud of what I've accomplished with this truck so far.

I have a tiny bit of trimming to do on the rear fenders, it just barely rubbed on that corner. Or I may just leave it, since I'll be able to center the axle in the wheel well when I link the rear end later this year...

Ahhhhh yes that thing is sweet! I love that green color. Don't know why but I do. Don't worry bout the welds. A guy once told me as he was plugging in an 8" grinder "if you're not good with a welder, you better be good with a grinder". I finally replaced the batteries in my Jackson helmet the other day because of the same problem. Been ready to shave my beard off for a couple weeks but I'm having second thoughts now! Hahahaha! Anyway... Nice work man.

We use ours for tree trimming so on top of being up in a trash can on a stick we hang over the side with a saw trying not to smash fences and headstones and stuff. Plus there's something screwy with the controls and when you boom over it starts heading for the ground. It's slow but fast enough to make you pucker. Pretty sketchy but it's good to know that even a newer truck still sucks.

How is the rear keeping up?

It does surprisingly well for being basically stock, the shackle flip definitely helped soften it up... It's begging to be redone though. Can't wait to put some nice coil overs on it...

That is some flex!!

And I still had some left! Ran out of rock, and didn't want to mess up that rear fender...

Nice beard...

Thanks! That's the fourth compliment I've gotten today, lol...
