76 K5: Megasquirt EFI, Electric Fan, and ICON Coilovers

Fallen way behind on updating... Been working too much, as always, sent out of town 4 times in 2 weeks, and designing brackets for another truck build in what little spare time I've had...
The blazer's front end has yet to disappoint. Drove it on the freeway for the first time, got up to 80mph, about an hour drive down to Chino for school. Handled beautifully. Being the middle of the night with no traffic, decided to try some "panic" braking, swerving, etc... Would have gotten pulled over for a DUI if a cop had seen me. Handled every situation in a very predictable manner. Everything was going great, but on the way back home the next day my clutch decided it wanted to force my hand on what project I tackle next...
I love the low gear of my SM465, but I hate the 1-2 gear split... When going fast off road, I'm either wound way up in 1st, or bogging bad in 2nd... So I happened to have an extra 700r4 sitting in my shed, gonna to putting that in for fun. I'm really curious to try having overdrive and being able to run stupid low axle gearing... I know they have a horrible reputation, but I've talked with a lot of people that have had positive experiences as well, and since it won't cost me hardly anything, nothing to lose but time. Going to put a trans-go shift kit in it, a .500 boost valve, possibly a pump upgrade that I might be getting for free, and just running it. I'm hoping with the real low gearing it'll reduce the load on the transmission enough and allow it to live a little longer... If I kill it, hopefully I'll have enough money saved up to buy a NV4500 or something by then... So that's where it stands, waiting for time to work on it, gonna be busy building another truck this weekend, maybe I can get some time on it next weekend...

Read your thread; fine work. Now I want coil overs.

Dammit.

David

Ha, all I can say is do it! It's amazing the difference between lifted leafs vs coilovers... I know that leafs can be made to ride nice if built properly, and properly set up with good valving on the shocks, but by the time you get all that, you're only a few hundred dollars away from a pretty nice coilover system...

Put a 6.2 in it, that fixes all your issues. You can't go fast enough to be in 2nd gear and doesn't rev high enough to use low gears.. Plus gets better mpg and sounds better than that stupid dodge you got.. Lol

Yes, same gear split. But the 4500 has a .7 overdrive, so I could run a real deep gear and still have the same RPM at cruise as I do now, which would make it a less of a drop in rpm on that split.

So you'd regear at the same time?
That was my plan. But now I'm leaning back the other way and just keeping the 465, gonna cost me a bit for the shifter, cooler, cooler lines, torque converter, etc... Gonna try pulling the 465 shifter out to try and loosen up the sloppy softer handle, and replace the clutch. Honestly the 465 is a better trail crawler than an auto would be, which is what this truck does the most of... I love engine braking downhill, 4lo and 1st great, the truck creeps down any hill at less than walking speeds...
