So I embarked on my clutch replacement last night... That was not fun... My stubbornness and determination nearly got me killed, on several counts... Suffice to say that it's not safe to take a gearbox out of a truck that has an 8" lift with a too short floor jack and 2 4x4s stacked atop it... Thank God my wife came out and was willing to save me from the pickle I'd found myself in.
Going to look at transmission jacks tonight, if I can't find anything tall enough I'm going to make my own adapter for transmissions.
Another lesson learned, even though both the SM465 and NP205
have their own fluids, they are not sealed, and as soon as you take the adapter off the back of the transmission it pukes it's gear oil all over your garage floor... All of it...
So after much heartache, the transmission is out, now to scrub everything up, replace some gaskets, a clutch, and not die whilst putting it all back in the truck...

Correct. I was staring at a 203 all weekend, just what my brain said. Doh....
some of use the HF transmission scissor jack, it's worked fine for me with several different lifted trucks. A 1/2" cordless impact makes going up an down effortless and works up to 23.25" height.

I was planning on doing something almost exactly like that @blazinzuk. For now, given my lack of time, I bought the harbor freight one that I linked earlier. If I hate it, I have 30 days to return it. But since I foresee this not being my last transmission job, and @sreidmx is due for a clutch job in his 6.2, it'll probably get some use...
Correct. Bad day... Even though I didn't drop it on me, I did have to bench press it off the jack enough to get my redneck blocks out from underneath it to get it out from under the blazer... I can tell you first hand, that is one heavy piece of iron...

In my younger days I had to replace a clutch in a truck with a 465. Did it by myself with no jack.
Only took 4 weeks of physical therapy to get my elbow working right again.

I did one also, just no therapy after. Or trans jack, just a floor jack.
so far I have learned to not drop on head.. this clutch better be up to 5krpm dumps in 4x...
