'76 k5 mid life crisis

Thats what i thought too. I just needed a little reassurance from someone else. This blazer rides twice as good down the road than my 94 ram 2500. big smiles here:D

ram horn manifold clearance?

im in the process of collecting parts for my engine, and was wondering if anyone on here has any info on ram horns.

im wondering if i can use center dump not sure if they clear the motor mounts, or do i need the 45* dump.

thanks

I'm going to be the odd man out here and say that if there is nothing wrong with your 203 than just leave it in there. It will handle the 300-400 HP you are planning. Spend your money elsewhere.

If you live where it snows the full time 4wd works well on those. If that bugs you, converting it to part time is super easy. My opinion, of course...

well from my research the ram horns flow better than the log style. i know headders are best, but im a big fan of a stock low budget look, and going out and spending a saturday in the junk yard is half the fun of building somthing like this.

as far as the transmission, im going to stay with stock automatic and 203. the only research i can find bad about it is the chain. so for now untill i break something and its a must do, im going to put a part time shaft kit with a set of lock outs.

i have also decided to keep auto trans. my foot acted up earlier, and i couldnt even push in the clutch on my hhr.

sorry this is so long but i keep thinking of things.

my heater vaccuum problem is that ball thing under the hood. does anyone know what its called and where i might be able to get a new one.

thanks

rod knocking

i bought it with a rod knocking, and today i got nervous coming home from my parents. i was running 55mph the thing was rattleing away like usual, and all at once it completely stoped knocking. i only had like 3 miles to go, and no problems, no knocking and still had all the power. i didnt push it, just drove normal.

any thought on what might be going to happen. i have a sneeky feeling that this thing is going to come from together all over the high way on me.

when this happens, cus i know its going to, im going to take pics:D:D

And your sure it was a rod knock? Didnt just happen to be a loud lifter that was stuck and freed up?

yeah im prety sure its a rod. when i first got it we did intake gasket and i found a broken valve spring and i thought it was that i replaced the spring and didnt help. everything on the top end you can see looked good even with the intake off everything looked good in the valley too.

i have already been running mobile 1 20w50 dino oil since i bought it.

im going to check on my block at the machaine shop on monday to see how long its going to be.

i guess at this point i can start telling what my engine is going to be. first off im not doing a 355 or 383 because everyone else has these. no offence to anyone who has one but i like to be different. im building a 364, which back in the 70's was a popular low budget stroker. for those who dont know much about one, originaly buildt they were .030 over, with the crank ground down to small journal giving it a 3.562 stroke or a 9/16 engine. i am going to cheat and buy a crank kit.

so internals, im going to go with 6" rods to to give it a better rod ratio than a stock 350 and i need new ones. i wont know untill i get the block back how much its bored over, but its getting new flat top pistons 2 valve relief. comp cams extreme 4x4 or clay smith rv cam, not sure which one i like best, its actualy going to depend on my heads.

so heads, im 99% sure im going with a set of dart iron eagle 2.02 valves, and 64cc chambers. from what i was told i can get away with 10.5:1 compression on 93 octaine.

the donor block is a 1973 corvette 350 l48, 010 block, with 2 bolt mains. i am putting in bearing cap studs to make it a little stronger. from my research if you dont turn a 2 bolt main block over 6000 revs, it can handle 400 hp all day long, and with what im going to do with it, it will be just fine.

intake, well my dad has a edelbrock tarantula high rise from his camaro, but its single plane. thinking about a dual plane offenhauser. i also have access to a moon 4x2 with the 4 webber carbs, but i think that will be a little excessive but very retro cool. i think 8 stacks sticking out of my hood would be sweet:D

if you cant tell by my parts lists i come from a long line of drag racers. so i do know how to make power, but most of what i know for power is at wot. im having fun trying to mix old school muscle car parts with new tech just to see what i can come up with.

well i love building engines. i think about buying engines all the time just to rebuild and see what i come up with

progress report,

sent the rims off to get blasted and paint matched yesterday sould have them back next week some time.
