76 k5 Wheeler build-GIT ER DONE

Well looks like i got plenty of time. Blazerfest is moving 3 hours away from my new home in hollister.

By the way the loan got accepted and it looks like Escrow may close as early as next monday and then the moving begins :saweet: . A second driveway with tons of space is going to be awessssome.

Back to the sad news, Looks like i wont get to run tank trap for the first time with the norcalbigdawgs :(. So i got all the time in the world now however i wanna get wheelin so i dont plan to slow down :D

Got the driver side stripped down to the spindle on the 14 bolt to prep for the disc swap. In the breakdown i realized i forgot to re install the washer between the preload spindle nut and outer bearing

. So looks like im going to have fun takin that back apart and installing the washer like i shoulda the first time. Im using a different set of hubs even though they are both the same because i bought a full disc conversion kit that came with a SRW hub and rotor already mated to it so im just using the hubs it came with rather than seperating the drum from the original hubs. So i left that washer sitting against the hub first time around hence why this mistake happen in the first place.

Which leads to my next question what is an 11'' drum on a 14 bolt SRW hub worth with studs and all. I'd like to recover some of my money back since i have no use for those hubs/drums.

Tomorrow is my day off work and payday so im going to be ordering some of these

Cheap,But im sure they will last for a while . I mean how weak can 3/4'' steel be :haha:.

Next on my list is a double ended ram to create 3 turns lock to lock but not extend so far as to rape my knuckles. pretty sure im looking for something with 10'' of stroke and 22 or so cu/in volume. Im going to run the stock pump till it goes or i cant stand it :D . Probably going to booty fab something up to mount my ram flat with the high steer arms.

Rocks use a 10" stroke, Dana axles need an 8"

Good thing you said that. I thought it said somewhere in the pirate 4x4 bibles that for extreme comp use a 10'' stroke was needed but they must have been thinkin rocks. I've been racking my brain trying to figure out which one to use imagining sheering a knuckle in half in tank trap and trying to figure out how to get out lol.

Got the driverside hub rebuilt today but my dad decided to crash early so i didnt have anyone to hold the axle while i torqued the nuts (its on jackstands) so ill get some finished pictures tomorrow probably.

I started it up today after a bit of a struggle. Ended up jumping it off of its 2nd battery and spraying a tad bit of starter fluid along with a whole lot of pedal pumping. It hadnt been started in a month so this wasnt all that unexpected. So i held it at idle for a while and it managed to catch itself so i put it in reverse and it drops on its face instantly. I already know its the fuel mixture screws backing off again if they havent fell out yet :haha:. Anyways once i get into the new house im going to look for a truck with a 350 TBI and part it out and keep the motor and use that in my 76 while i build my race motor out of the 400SB. Did i mention the new house has room to part out vehicles and work on all of my vehicles behnd locked gates :saweet: .

Forget tbi... for a comp rig go propane :deal: Its runs at any angle and it stupid simple to set up.... and the biggest plus is no computers or electronics. You get the simplicity of a carb with the off camber performance of tbi... Best of both worlds... :thumb:

I thought he said his truck was off road only? if so then there aren't many filling stations of gas or propane where this thing will be driving:D

Yes, but most of the "Offroad" areas require driving on the road both before and after to fill up the tanks. every gas station has gas, but not all have propane and those that do don't always refill large propane tanks. Propane is interesting, but not "simpler" than TBI.

Gasoline has the advantage of way more filling stations though.

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=978386 ,Racing on propane just doesnt make any sense for anything but extreme rock crawling comps where you are only running relatively short rounds with time to refilll in between.

No worries though,The tbi set up is going to be temporary and with me living just a few minutes from Hollister i need to have something to wheel with while im gathering parts for my race motor build. Also since blazerfest has moved and ive decided not to go to it my priorities have now changed. I think my next purchase will be a car trailer so i can start parting out cars for more cash flow at the new house as well and go wheeling anytime i like since the 76 cant run the streets anymore.

just get a few extra fork lift tanks and keep them at the tow pig. easy peasy.

oh yeah. some buddies and I are going to hit up HH next weekend if you got a way to head down.
