77 K5 Just had to do it

I knew that one wouldn't last long when @azblazer sent me a PM with the craigslist ad. I was half tempted to go look at it to flip it. The pics in the ad were pretty vague. Glad another CK5 guy got it. But by the looks of your pics your has a lot of the same problems mine did. Specifically, the cab-over floor and the front wall of the camper to the cab. Why they used particle board back then is beyond me.

I was just working on mine today. Best thing you can do is find the leak in the roof that caused the particle board to get wet and swell. Fix the leak. Then you can go after replacing the swollen boards.

Yours looks interesting with the diamond quilted paneling on the outside. Looks like it wasn't equipped with a fridge either. I'm really curious what the inside of yours looks like too. Let's see some more pics!

Now there's two being saved here. Congrats!

I e-mailed the seller 15 mins after he posted it {Wednesday night }. He responded Thursday morning with one sentence
"can show this weekend". Then it was like he dropped off of the face of the earth, would not respond to any attempts to make an appointment to meet me?? So Saturday morning I just drove down there. One of the rare times seller puts his address in the C-list ad.
He told me he had over 100 e-mail responses! I ALMOST felt bad trying to talk him down on price but he was very firm and I paid asking price. But with the overall condition, extra stuff, literature and maintenance records he had I think I did OK.

The camper does have the same issues as yours and my roof might be a bit worse actually. No fridge, just an icebox and I plan on doing some type of later style, more efficient fridge. I actually really like the diamond quilted paneling on the outside, kinda gives it a retro look.

I hear you on the price. The guy I bought mine from had guys coming over to look at it after me. I knew I didn't have much wiggle room.

Yours looks good inside. Hows the skirt? Does yours still have the tag on the outside back wall with the production date? I really like the fact he had all the literature with the vehicle. I've saved the owner's manual in PDF form from FWC's website, but it's really cool you got all that with it.

You got a good score for sure. The repairs have been pretty easy so far. These things are really simple when it comes down to it. Hardest part for you to replace the cab wall section would be pulling the camper off the Blazer for access. With mine off we got access from every direction. A set of camper jacks would be the next thing I'd look for.

Cool stuff Ron
All the documentation and literature is cool stuff.
I Gotta check it out next week!

I just noticed something. I can see bolts in the front cab wall where it joins the Blazer cab. Mine didn't have anything there. Any chance you could take some detailed pics where the camper joins the cab. Mine didn't go into the groove on the Blazer cab, but butted up to the back edge. You can see what I'm talking about here.

Yep looks like 6 bolts total. You can see some of them in the green carpeting in the pics. 2 of the bolts you can see while looking between the cab and camper on the outside. On the drivers side you have to remove the icebox to get to 1 maybe 2 of the bolts. No tag on the back and I do not see anyplace where it looks like one used to be.

I actually already have a couple different styles of camper jacks.

Are all 76-91 stock tops the same? I would like to get one for my rig while the camper is getting rebuilt.
Did the Blazer you took your camper off of have any rust on the top of the cab from the sagging particle board?

Outside of the 91's having roof mounted 3 point belts, the rest of them are the same how they bolt up. I'm really curious if they ran bolts to the Blazer cab to draw in the front wall to seal it to the camper tape or if they actually have yours sitting in the channel and using the stock Blazer top gasket.

Very nice save! I had thoughts on it as well as its a bolt on and go and the chalet is going to be a project. But since every time i try to get my hands on one it gets away from me i think the universe is telling me to go ahead and stick with my chalet camper swap idea!

Dang Ron you aren't fooling around now! That one looks pretty nice to part out. How many miles? Good Score regardless.

I went to a local auction today planning to pick up an 89 Suburban and ended up getting this instead. It is wrecked D/S front, bent frame and no title. It is actually fixable but with no title and what I can make parting it out, under the knife it goes.:hack:
Miles are a little high {202 k} but the oil is very clean and it looks like the P.Os took good care of it. What do you think about the miles?

my 99 6.0 turned 240K on it when I was on my trip to your place....runs great, might take a little oil if I'm towing the 10K load of Blazer/Trailer, other than that I think its good for another 100K!

My 5.3 had 201,489 on it when we pulled it from our customers 2001 Silverado. That was back in 2009. Very good customer to us and changed the oil like clockwork every 3,000 miles with Mobil 1 oil. I had no hesitation throwing it in mine without dropping the pan.

If yours has 200k and it looks good under the valve covers I'd run it.

It has 80# of oil pressure at startup and drops just a tiny bit after warming up!
