78 Blazer Buildup by Shaffers Offroad

Cant remember if it was posted but what is frame height at full compression and what is ride height of bottom of frame gong to be seems tall.

19" fully compressed, ~25" ride height. I'm not sure anyone has built one this low... the axles are -very- close to the frame at full bump..

I guess the tires and pic are throwing it off.. Sweet build cant wait for the sheet metal work.

There's no way 26' is street legal......maybe you meant 26"? :D

:usaflag:

Thanks. Just curious, what's your frame at @ ride height?
27 1/4 to bottom of frame at ride height 23" compressed 4 1/4 inches of compression i want to mount the shocks lower on the axle for an additional 2 inches of up travel.
i am also looking at lowering it an inch or 2 if i do them ill mount the shocks lower to accommodate.

moving along, sloooooowly.

has anyone ever dovetailed our hard tops? Is it possible?

One guy did a really nice job on the actual hard top if thats what your talking about. Not sure where the thread is though.

Sincity78,

I'm impressed that the money is still holding out.... That shop has got to have logged some SERIOUS hours into your build by now. :yikes:

All of the work looks impressive and very well thought out. There are nice touches everywhere... I like the forethought of building the suspension at "full bump" to check for clearance issues up front. That helped to identify the notch that was needed in the front panhard bar. Relocating the steering box into that "Z" notch to clear the front tire at full-lock was clever as well. :waytogo:

I think I remember earlier you mentioned the bellypan height target was 24"...and later on I think you said it was 26". Any idea where you're currenty at with it? Has the shop given you any idea about what your anti-squat % is going to look like at ride height? The link positions look "low and level" to the ground which generally means that the design is keeping the AS nice and small (good!). I'm curious if they ever gave you a number for where they think it's going to end up?

I didn't notice it in any of the photos yet, but is there a link mount with a few sets of holes in it to allow you to do some suspension tuning later on? I'm sure it's there somewhere and I just didn't see it.

Great build!.....I'm looking forward to seeing the final product.

The goal was pretty much to keep it as low as possible, 24" @ ride height being the goal. After everything was setup with this goal we ended up at a 19" belly at full bump. We want a bit more than 5" of uptravel so it's not just bouncing off the bump stops the whole time so that's where the ~26" comes in.

They never provided me with any suspension calculator numbers, I think it was just setup with the goals and packaging in mind. The shop has build lots of custom suspensions so I think they just have a good eye for where it needs to be.

There's no adjustments for the suspension mounts. If alterations need to be made we'll just have to cut and re-do.

Thanks for the kind words on the build! Hopefully Shaffers can wrap the build up soon so we can get to testing and tuning so I'm ready for the wheeling season!
