'78 K20 - RootBreaker from 1990 - nov 2025 8.1L not runnin

Oh i was told my motor was drilled out for the bigger manifold bolts cuz 8.1 was notorious for breaking bolts...
You're in South Jersey?! I'm in Swedesboro Yea I guess the 8.1L Manifolds are bigger at the flange that's why I'm not using them

Not sure how starter wire comes off yet. Engine still sitting on a pallet. But thats last wire then i got it all disconnected. Im guessing rear main leak too20180904_222539.jpg 20180904_222529.jpg 20180904_222511.jpg 20180904_222523.jpg

Hard to say but typically you would fallow the leak upward right? Can you split these rear main seals? Mines a little sweaty but not quite that bad. I was gonna leave the sleeping dog lie it's like a first Gen small block haha

Im told there is a tool that you put up then screws that go into seal and you yank it out in 1 shot. Ill have to look through 8.1L swap thread

That would be even better

my father is a retired (just last year) mechanic and he said there is a slap hammer with screw end.. he said use that.. its a seal puller and will work just fine. gonna go out there soon..

also my son works at autozone (he and immediate family gets 20% off but must provide his card to which i carry as he has a keychain one as well)... so when I went to pickup the manifold gaskets... which were cheap..
I said hell with it.. needed new wires since the guy didn't send them and they were cheap and hell the crank sensor that everyone says replace while its out... ordered.. will be in today..

so to add to my shopping list I gotta find a page or 2 back..

Exhaust gaskets - fel-pro MS95840 - $13
Crank Sensor - duralast - SU1394 - $56
Wires - Duralast lifetime - 4711 - $32

At this point the only sensor I haven't done yet is the cam sensor bc it 65$ and I can do it in the truck if necessary. The truck drove into my shop with the exception of brakes so I could have skipped some but we all want our swaps to go as smoothly as possible so it go

wow truck drove in.. really nice.. yeah I got a good deal but parts of it are annoying.. like how long I had to wait. then he said 02 sensors but 1 is smashed and 2nd is not there.. I don't see the wires.. so were they cut? harness was supposed to be good but then accidentally rips it upon removal so cut it out... blah blah... etc... oh well... it will get there...
