'78 K20 - RootBreaker from 1990 - nov 2025 8.1L not runnin

If you've ever been to the top of a land fill, they have a very distinctive smell. Kroil almost matches it like it's only missing an ingredient or two. So weird. BTW all landfills smell the same. Fact, I've been on landfills, transfer stations, and trash burning power plants. Glad I don't do that anymore haha

so I dropped the truck off at a shop. speed shop that is used to dragsters. he had it for a week while I was in Chicago. I just called and he was like.. Dude that thing is a death trap! I was like.. I know I told you the brakes are screwed up. he was like.. yeah ive driven some messed up sh1t... but this one really takes it...

so brakes to be fixed are next. did both calipers and drivers rotor... but I'm wondering if that when I overheated the drivers side with caliper caked in mud, if it broke down the structure of the drivers rubber brake line and if that is the problem. so next up is replace both.

he also said my vac adv in my msd dizzy was bad, something else in the dizzy had to be replaced, needed a bigger squirter in the truck avenger, accel pump spring was all screwed up on adjustment.
he mentioned that he ripped the timing control module out and only the msd 6al is left (which I wanted to remove the other thing anyway to sell it)....

so he got a lot done from what I'm hearing.. he said it is running great with a very slight hesitation to which it had a major before.... he said.. it sh1ts and gits but just don't try and stop!!!!
 
just picked my truck up. he wasnt there but his wife was. they had to jump it as something is draining the battery. well i started to drive it home.. it is no way any better than it was. it runs like shiet.. $500 and really... so im gonna call him back later and tell him that it is no way better at all.. and tell him i will fix the brake then if he can take another stab at it. if he says it will cost more.. then im done with them.. and consider it a loss...even in last gear.. she didnt want to move.. popped through carb like timing was retarded... gggrrrr im pissed.....

If I didn't know better I'd think he doesn't know what he's doing. There are rumors it will barely run at 180deg out but not well. I haven't tested this. Is there a chance a wire or two are just wrong? Or the dizzy is possibly wore out and throwing the timing off? Worst case maybe the timing chain is off a tooth or two? Sorry to hear man I been through the same thing before
 
I have stabbed a dizzy at 180, it wouldn't run. It wanted to. It was fire, pop and die.
But in my experience a smallblock will not run. Even with moving the dizzy around as much as you can.
 
Great to see your truck resurrected! I'm in the same boat...about your age (joined CK5.com in the 2000's also) and my truck too took a hiatus (and rust) as life got in the way...I hope to recondition it so I can enjoy it again at this new (but older) phase of life and do the things we enjoyed in our youthful years....haha...
That said, looks like your K20 has held up well and truck looks go be in great shape..and better with a BBC!....love those old school Ground Hawgs!

umm no BBC.. its being sold... long story... so ive gotta get my current setup running right.

rear main leak, serpentine conversion (finding parts now) to do 140a alt upgrade to handle upcoming winch...
 
You selling the big block is one of those.... you price it three times what it's worth and then tell the wife it won't sell??

tonight i got led bulbs in.. only got fender lights done as other kid has sports. led not brighter but led and works and turn signal works...
going all led to lower watts used...

ok so few things... 10 pack led amber were wrong.. they only work when lights on. special bulbs needed as said in other thread..


tonight..stupid update...

got 1157A amber led bulbs in grill turn signals and work.

grill shifted so i can get to front clip mount.. bolt out and wife took car with new bottom mount and metal piece from junkyard...

this bumper does not make this easy....

Sorry you're having trouble but glad you are getting it . I think it's worth it in the end .

yeah.. im half awake as having trouble sleeping lately..

gotta look back through your thread for the flashers needed... ok off to bed again. lol
