'78 K20 - RootBreaker from 1990 - nov 2025 8.1L not runnin

well this got interesting.

I sold my 8.1L - reasons some know and i dont want to bring up... things are going well..
sold it for $800...

Sunday, I leave on a 5h each way trip to go pickup another 8.1L. Already let the wife know as we have to be cautious of the covid quarantine states as she is a teacher, i have an oldest that has to go to work and a 14y old that has to go to school 2d a week.
so with all of that..

found a newer (2003 i think) engine... with less miles!!!! one i sold had 145k and this one has 125k. i believe it comes with the harness too and he said the esu is already set for a manual...wooot...

so more to come... but 8.1L is still going in!

so im not happy..somewhat..
its..i believe 2002.

picked up engine. bit annoyed as he said complete but alternator and starter were missing. frustrating but at least i got it now. 20k less miles and 1y newer than one i sold. Drove 5h and 311 miles to get it.

will post some q from pc later but on cell at the moment..

That's the fuel pressure test port. The regulator is in the pic with the fuel line fittings on the rail. The round pod with the vacuum line and teeny torx screw in the center is the regulator.

wooot wooot.. score lol..

so thats on bigger line and ill ass-ume that means fuel line. smaller return.

so how do yall clean this stuff up for paint? take all apart individually and do what?

Yep the return line comes off the regulator and is smaller. The torx screw is the adjustment.

Yikes on the rust. It isn't any different than anything else. Pull it apart, bead blast or sand manually, reprime and paint. I'd suggest blowing/rinsing out thoroughly if you bead blast it though. Don't want any of the media getting into the injectors when you put it back together.

this is a west virginia motor.. bit rustier than the mass motor i sold.. but less oil leaks. meaning im preppin and gonna drop in as is.. to work kinks out and have working. then in a year tear apart and rebuild
