Just to say it out loud, the 781 and 049 castings are nearly identical so they're no just a great number but a fine substitute if you can't find 781's.
Typical voal port aluminum intake, not a OE cast iron (boat anchor). As for which one, it all depends on application/usage. For an average truck wanting good torque operating under 6k, I'd say a Edel. Performer RPM.
I guess I am going to throw this out there just from my experence. If you are building a truck engine that will not really spin over 4500 peanut ports aren't that bad. I have a 80k 79 454 with 7.8 to one a mild cam, wieand street warrior (peanut port) and headers and with 4.11s it will easily smoke the both 37s on my truck. I really want to build a budget 496 with a ported set to see how it will run. Once I get my current engine dyno tuned I will post up the numbers. I built it for torque so the hp may not be much but the low end grunt it awsome.
