I'm looking for a rust free full vert blazer tub. I don't need a whole project truck. I just want the bare tub, no top needed, I plan to get a soft top. Just a bare tub. But I don't want a rusty tub, preferably something from the southwest or somewhere dry and rust free. Don't we have a guy that finds and transports that stuff to the midwest?

EDITED: I am now looking for a 79-91 blazer tub and a full vert windshield frame to convert it.

You're thinking @kennyw

I make random trips to visit family in Illinois. Except I prefer to transport full vehicles, handling a body tub would be a pain in the rear to avoid damage.

I'd consider a whole vehicle at the right price but I feel like that would be higher cost and more work to sell. An entire rust free 73-75 blazer would likely not be cheap, and I don't need most of it.

If someone finds something let me know.

What parts do you need if not all the tub?
Or did you mean you don't need most of the full truck?

Yes, I just need a tub, the whole tub.

I don't need a whole blazer.

My plan is to just shorten my frame and rear driveshaft ~11" (I'd link it while I'm there), plop the blazer tub on it, and then sell my cab and box.

The doors I can deal with.

I could get a whole blazer, but then I would need to swap the entire drivetrain over, which isn't as easy with my front suspension. I could do it, and then sell my truck with the blazer drivetrain in it.

But it would be easier and less initial cost to just buy a tub.

If that turns out to be too expensive to find a rust free one, then I would be back to getting a fiberglass tub, but that might be a while. I'd rather enjoy it while the kids are little than wait until I can get a lighter tub.

This will allow me to haul my 3 kids in it, and also cage it without cutting through the cab like my truck would require.

Also, if I'm going to do it, I want full vert, but I want my 83 nose. That's my preferred setup.

Well I have a 85 tub. If you can find a 73-75 windshield frame you can make it full vert.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind, don't think I want to go that route with the conversion, but if I can't find one eventually I would consider that.

For what I do, I want the full vert. At the dunes I like the open feeling. And I usually only drive it in nice weather anyway. But I will have a soft top if I get stuck in the rain. My friend has a fiberglass CJ I helped him build, hybrid 3 link/radius front with 4 link rear and coilovers and air bumps in all 4 corners, 6.0 LQ4 short block with LS3 heads. D60 rear and D44 front, nice ride, but I am not a Jeep guy and the rear driveshaft is so short we had to limit the rear droop. Also, you can barely fit anyone in the back.

It feels nice to be open at the dunes. His Jeep is more open, our RZR is more open too...but I still like the old truck and want that feeling in the full size square body. It will also be cool around home.

plus, the full vert has to be lighter...

The last statement, not correct.
The metal used to stiffen the tub is as much if not more than the metal for the roof.
And when you add the extra portion of the original fiberglass top, you'll be over.

No fiberglass top for me, just cloth....

I did wonder about stiffening, but wasn't sure if they did that when it's a full framed vehicle.

I'm thinking with a cloth top it's still lighter, but you may be right, it would be close depending on how much the reinforcement weighs. Either way, I still want the full vert.

But your saying a 85 converted to full vert would be lighter than an original full vert tub.

Does anyone have any pictures of these reinforcements that aren't on the newer tubs? We talking 20 lbs or 200 lbs?

I would think it has to be under a hundred pounds total. I could be wrong but all I’ve seen is some channels under the floor (they appear to be the same thickness as the floor) and the pan (maybe 1/16” thick?) that covers / ties it all together.

The rocker boxes are closer to 1/8 thick ,the run from firewall to Justin front of rear wheel well an from frame to rocker.

I found these images from @1300obo thread, are those it in the bottom corners? Are those on a 76 up?

I'm just curious what they are. It's not like I have a donor to swap it over anyway, I'd rather have the full vert tub still.

Where is the leg room added, does the lower floor go back a little further or something? How many inches?

I plan to carry 3 kids in the back, maybe mount buckets back there staggered, but removable. Could also put 3 up front and 2 in the rear...
