79 K5 "MilkDud"

79 K5 Rockcrawler Build.
Man, that thing looks really good, lots of great mods.

How did you mount the p/s reservoir?

@BattleBornK5 that's a great pic, thanks! I was hoping you had built off of the alternator bracket, I want to put a reservoir in that same area but I don't have anything to work off of except for the alternator bracket but even that is only 1 bolt.

I tried the alt and gave up. I even tried the inner fender well but the supply hose was too much of an angle. Per PSC they want it right over the pump. They DIY4x4 shock towers are nice if you want to relocate the shocks.

Sure is a lot going on. Getting bump stops mocked up. I think I’m pretty happy with this. Time to burn them in then build a pad for them. Probably going do something that bolts to the outside U-ubolt with a stand off in the middle. Called Tom woods and have the front shaft ordered also and they said I need to limit strap this pig so I don’t bind the CV. IMG_2270.jpeg

I have some Ford shock towers I may use but I haven't quite figured the mounting location out yet, the Diy4x shock towers do look convenient.

The Parker valve by your headlight switch, is that for your brakes? I have one I'm going to plumb in to my brakes at some point but was wondering if it might make pulling the instrument bezel a PITA, I was thinking of using braided hoses with a loop for slack.

No pulling of the instrument panel needed. I have it plumbed through the 2 bolt holes fore the old park brake mount bracket. I also plumbed it to my front brakes so I can modulate rear brakes with my brake pedal when doing a front dig. Sounds good in theory

And I have ford shock towers also but diy made is much nicer to get around the steering shaft.

Well got it running and took it for a spin. Everything seems to be working good mechanically so Now I can work on all the little stuff. Needed a change of pace so I started building a rear bumper for it. Not sure what it will look like when I’m finished but it’s a start.IMG_2350.jpegIMG_2365.jpegIMG_2367.jpegIMG_2371.jpegIMG_2378.jpegIMG_2377.jpeg

I got this truck running with a carb just to make sure everything else was going work. Now that it has moved under its own power for the first time in 4 years I’m pulling the trigger on a EFI kit for it. I had a horrible experience with the Holley Sniper on my old hot rod. I ran their full system in hopes their was not going be a problem and like many others the heat got to it and started giving me problems. Many hours on the phone and internet troubleshooting and when I’m on the phone with Holley setting up the wizard on a replacement unit the injector stuck open and filled up the cylinders and intake with fuel. At that point it all came out and I vowed never will I buy a Sniper system or any system where the ECM is in the TB. So for the last year I been trying to research what I can put on this truck because a LS swap is not really what I want. I love my SBC and when it kicks the bucket maybe I’ll toss this 6.0 that I have in it. Maybe…. That leads me to what I just pulled the trigger on. ACES Killshot TB EFI system and Blackjack IGN system. The ECM can be mounted out of the heat and vibration of the motor inside the cab on rubber isolators. I’ll take the gamble I guess that the fact they have not been around long but from all the reviews they are all good. Not to mention when I called them directly they picked up within seconds and answered all my questions. Between the Feb sale they are having and a 10% first time buyer discount, after shipping everything was 1450.00 bucks.
So we shall see it should be here by next week. Another plus side to this kit is it comes with a 7” Touch screen dash that has a built in GPS Speedo, and has inputs for other sensors. That alone will save me from spending money on aftermarket Gauges and when I do the DIY4x dash it will be nice and clean. We shall see….IMG_2392.png
