Had this truck for about a year now.
Was going to rebuild the 350, but, found a steal on a 2003 8.1/Allison/14bff Combo.
Anyway, the truck is pretty much stripped and I'll be doing my best to keep this post updated for those who are interested.

2/7/10 The 8.1 test fit:

Stock engine crossmember had to come out:

Trans Pics. X-member had to be relocated to the rear. I will need to raise the Trans about an inch. At least the I'll be able to get to all of the sensors.

That's it for now.
Much more to come :eek1:

Looks like that Allison trans fits without a body lift or having to mangle up the trans tunnel unless your rig has a body lift on it that I'm not seeing.

Just a 1" and new poly mounts from ORD.

this is looking cool.....keep posting up.

I think everything clears so well is because the back of the transmission is so low. That is "tall foot" adapter with a "short foot" adapter. Isn't there like at least 2" different between the two style adapters, even though that mount has a 1" lift already.

Do you think everything would clear without the 1" BL?

It probably would, but, it was a bear to get in the way I have it. Plus you might run into tight wiring issues, especially with the Crank and Cam position sensors. As of now I can get to both fairly easy.
Also as noted on the pictures, the transmission needs to come up about an inch, so you lose even more clearance without a body lift.
Of course you could always hack the transmission tunnel :D, not something I wanted to do.
I will also be going to 16" rims with either 38" or 39.5" tires (not sure yet), so it just made sense to add the extra inch. I'll probably still have to trim the fenders a little, but that's life.
Currently the truck has a 6" spring lift with 15"wheels and 37"X12.5" tires.

What transfercase are you gonna run?
If I was to put that same tranny into a mechanical diesel It would need a stand alone computer right? just like the 4l80E

Yes, the allison has it's own computer.
In addition to the engine and tranny I also got the complete wiring harness (everything including lights, trailer, climate control, cd player, instrumentation, computers, you get the idea), NP 263HD xfer case, steering column and pedal assemblies.
And yes I will be running the NP 263 xfer case, I have it, it mates to the allison and all the wiring will hook up. I do however have an idea to convert the slip yokes to fixed without paying ORU's ridiculous price. I will post if it works:confused:.
Only thing I have to find is a D60 out of a 78 or 79 Ford (The purists are screaming), I know "good luck":D.

You'll find few of us here screaming. High pinion, reverse cut gears...mmmmm...stronger than the GM D60 too.
