80 k5 - frame off 6.0 LS swap

my swap has begun. i am active duty army, 101st airborne. couple months before i head to afghanistan, so the goal is to get the truck runnin before i head out.

day 1 tear down has begun.

1980 k5. has 3/4 ton runnin gear, 8 lug dana 44, 14bff. 4 inch full spring lift.
406ci sbc. th350, np205. 36x14.5 ground hawg II's.

after my swap, it'll have a 2002 6.0 lq4, 4l60e, np205, dana 44, 14bff w/ disk brakes. plus a new interior.

i've ordered an engine, engine mounts, transmission to-transfer case adapter, radiator, rebuilt np205, a built 4l60 from bowtie overdrive, a fuel tank for a 91 k5, new fuel lines, and a dakota digital dash.

i am a one man wrecking crew. transfer case is out. pulling an np205 by yourself is a bitch!! especially when it is covered by an inch of 20 year old sand and oil. my running gear is disgusting.

soooooooonnnnnn it will all be clean!!!!!!!

it was 95 today. working in a garage with AC blasting was amazing.

one more picture before disassembly.

I remember cleaning mine. :doah:
And it didn't look that bad. :eek1:
Good luck with it. :haha:

ordering a 4l60e lvl 2 from bowtie overdrive. sent them the advanced adapter output shaft today so they can build the transmission with it. the output shaft gives the 4l60e a 27 spline output, matches straight up to an np205.

were the 3-point mirror mounts factory mirror mounts for 3/4 ton? its a picture of the '77 k20 my running gear came from.

also my 6.0 is en route. i'll pick it up in nashville july 2nd.
got my afco radiator too. aluminum. dual efans. sweet.

it is supposed to be a direct replacement for 73-91 trucks. if its not, i'll post up when i get to that point.
34-1/8" x 19"

i only have a few issues left to solve;
transmission - the 4l60e with a 2inch advanced adapter is gunna be a lot longer then the th350 thats coming out.
my dingo mounts will let me slide the engine foward, my efans will let it slide foward, but it will still be longer. so i may have to move my transfer case cross member, which will increase the angle of the drive shaft. going to try and avoid that if i can.

exhaust - i have been reading, and some people say LQ4 exhaust manifolds will work, some say they have major issues and end up with f-body manifolds or headers.... so i am not sure.

I think if your gonna try and mount the engine forward with those mounts you may have to modify the engine crossmember.
