80s k5, Bring Veronica back to life.

Well, its been far too long since i brought her from Iowa, back to California.

And after having to drag it with my other k10 into a freshly ripped vineyard field during the fires we had in northern california recently, it kicked my butt in gear to finally get a engine.

So, i finally came across a 8.1l somewhat local to me, so i went and pulled it.

So now im just going through the 8.1l since i wasnt able to hear it run, odo said 265k, but after pulling the valve covers, intake, and pan its been extremely clean.
No gunk at all.

And a shot of it safe back at the house after the fires were contained

Before this, upto now all i had done to the blazer since buying it from Curt was buy the trans/tcases he had in it that i didnt get initially, and put them in. Beyond that nothings changed since he finished it(except of course no cadi engine)
So for now the plan is to just get it moving under its own power again.

Well hot dog! Glad to see the old DIY4x blazer getting back at it...and with an 8.1 no less (I love me some 8.1 action!!). How long before you get the motor in there?

Hell Ya! This is awesome. If you need a hand let me Know. I live down the road in Petaluma. Let's go wheelin!

supercool...Veronica has so much innovation on it!

Its definitely been to long! I think the 8.1L should be a good fit for this thing. Just waiting on intake manifold gaskets, a flywheel, and a day i can go over to my buddies shop and cut open the bottom of the intake and open it up and tig it back together. Then i can start putting this thing in and start on making a engine cross member for it.

Just in case you don't want to take the time to fab a cross-member, ORD's big block cross-member works perfectly to install an 8.1 in a square. Now, I can't remember off hand if Kurt did something different with the frame of that truck, especially up front near the engine, but if it's still factory frame with factory motor pedestals, then the ORD big block cross-member will work just fine. Just bolt it up and go. Now if you "want" to build one from scratch, I understand that too, just more of an FYI really.

Any updates?

ORD parts on the old DIY flag ship?

Can't think like that...could understand if Kurt still owned it, but in all reality, there are really only 2 companies out there making good off-road performance parts for square bodies and other full-size chevy's. I like to spread the love between the two. Both of my project trucks have parts from both ORD and DIY all over them. And in the case of the engine cross-member for this guys need, ORD is the best he's got (unless he just decides to build it on his own)

It wasn't a criticism, I just find it ironic. Both companies make great products, and both bend over backward to support this site.

It’s completely boxed up front and Kurt had that Cadi 500 with a mid plate setup, and setup for the coolant hoses to run from the rear through the crossmember if I believe. Gonna be doing this one from Scratch.

However i did talk to Kurt awhile back about having him make me a crossmember similar to his 67-72 one, and I could finish it up. Just didn’t have to 8.1l for measurements yet. Depends on how busy work and the shop are wether I make one or not. No updates. Need to do the 8.1l intake mod and then have it hot tanked afterward. Order a flywheel. I’ve been slacking.

Minor update. Pulled the front clip off, ordered some engine parts i needed before stabbing the 8.1l in. Suppose to rain this week pretty good so i should have a few days off to get the engine ready to go in. Just need to get the forklift over here to get it turned around.

Small update, works been slammed this past month Finally got around to using the hot cart at work to steam clean the intake manifold out, gonna start stabbing the engine in today after work or tomorrow and get some measurements going for a engine crossmember

Nice! I just got the 8.1 running in my V3500 a few weeks ago (pic below)!

So what are the specs of the whole drivetrain going to be? That looks like an 01-03 8.1 based on valve covers and the oil fill tube...did you do any upgrades to the motor, or stock? Doing full stand alone harness? What tranny/tcase going behind this thing?
