80's short box, "S.E.R.E." Box permanently attached to the cab.

so its not like Bretts grille then?
anxious to see it!

Because the grille should be able to withstand small Toyotas flung at it? Damn, talk about over-engineering. [This from the guy who has an expanded steel mesh grille, albeit all of 16 gauge. Mine will only withstand hits from pigeons.]

Maybe not Toyotas but I've taken my fair share of pheasants in the grille and they sure do a number on things. This one should have no trouble keeping a pheasant out of the intercooler.

Last pheasant I got in the grille took the radiator with it. Started the tubes to leaking where they entered the tanks.

Nope, not like Brett's.

I really struggled with a design for the grille. That's kinda unusual for me. I think one of the problems for me, I really like the 89-91 grille. Always been my favorite. That grille simply would not work with the intercooler. Mine sticks out forward just a tad more than what the grille would allow and I didn't want to go back and re-engineer all of that.

I'll have pictures of it posted today. I don't see any obstacles left for this little project.

Looking forward to starting in on the bumper. Which brings me to winch selection...

Ha, the grill looks good. I can make it out on some of the face book pics.
How much will they cost?

This might end up being a first rendition.

Considering making some headlight and turn signal "buckets", not sure that's what you'd call them.

They'd be attached to trim rings and go into the grill to sort of surround the headlight and turn signals rather then there being a gap between the aluminum and the headlight and turn signals.

You could see the grill pattern test piece stacked on top of the table plate. The headlight area was the surprise. I was figuring you'd just do a replacement center section.

You will need to open the headlight openings a little. You want to be able to adjust and change headlights without pulling the entire grill every time.

Yep, you're right about that. I'd have to make the headlight holes bigger and I'd do the turn signals larger as well.

Making the headlight holes bigger may require changing all the slots. Things are a little close there right now considering some the dimple die needs a bit of space to work properly.

I think the bezel would look nice with a series of stainless screws holding them to the grill face. "set it off" a bit if you know what I mean.

It does give it a K6500 look. Kinda growing on me.

I like the idea of the bezel to give it some more depth.

Was also thinking dropping back the entire entire section maybe an inch give or take, to give it some more depth again. I don't think it would look so flat that way.

Don't know if it would look good or bad, but it was just a thought. :dunno:

Only thing you could do with the center to give it more depth would be to bring the center out. The intercooler is not far away and I wouldn't want to get any closer. It's about an inch behind the grill now.

I think I've seen some flat sheet metal grilles like this on some pre runner type stuff.

Not that this will ever be that kind of truck. Just think I've seen it before.

At any rate, I can think about this for a while and keep moving forward.

Bumper time!!

Which brings the question, to winch or not to winch? That is the question I ask of thee.

reminds me of the old 3500HD's (pre 01 models)

IMO....I think you need more separation of the grille and lighting assemblies....Keep the grille out front, but pull the headlight/turnsignal sides back an inch or two next to the grille.

1 always winch. Cause even if it only really goes off road once or twice a year it sure is useful

I think what you need to do to that grille is add depth :haha:. Seriously though. If you added something to the back to bring the headlights out more. I also think 5he holes need to be bigger and the inside trim needs to taper slightly.

So that's easy

Ooh quad headlights. Then you could head to wallyworld.

Or for a more obscure movie reference like the ambulance in mother juggs and speed
