80's short box, "S.E.R.E." Box permanently attached to the cab.

Sound quality is speakers, not the deck...

Get a kenwood in the 150 dollar range and be done. Any more money than that and you'd be wasting it... especially if you're "not an audio guy"...

I threw a $60 pioneer head unit in mine, my only requirement was a CD player. Very pleased with it. I'm technically stupid and have no music on my phone. Speaker wise, I've always been happy with kenwood speakers.

They are the jbl gto speakers.

Thats the model number of the kenwood i like.

you should clock that now only boost gauge so the black is at the bottom . .

Caught that did ya! Once again, not all gauges are available in "x" style, in "y" size. Drives me batshit crazy.

Are those Jbl GTO's? If so you will need amp for those too I believe.

Why is that? Bought them when designing the door panels based on reviews.

Might I suggest the Sony MEX-XB120BT CD receiver. “Its built-in Class-D amp delivers 45 watts RMS per channel — 100 watts of peak power — equivalent to what you'll find in many 4-channel car amplifiers.” That’s about double the output of the Kenwood.

The GTO's are all a 2ohm speaker iirc. Mine were, and I tried finding some that weren't and couldn't.
A general deck won't handle a 2ohm speaker load. None that I've seen anyway

That rating is also taken at 16v which you won't get in a truck, and at 1% distortion.
Still probably sounds good enough for most people though.
Kenwood takes there numbers (most 22w rms) at 14.4v and less than 1%.
In reality when you look at the numbers they are pretty much an identical output if you run the same testing method on both
Just pointing out that one companies power numbers may look great compared to another, but how they get that number can be questionable.

Sony was going to be a 3rd optin to my post. But I figured pioneer and Kenwood gave a lot to look through on their own lol.
Another one I've used and loved was Alpine. But they don't have much power because they expect an amp to be used. And they're a tad more $$ usually.
As a side note in my multiple years doing comp stereos I've had Kenwood's and a pioneer fail.. and my buddy lost 2 Sony's.. abuse was involved in all of them .. But I've never had an Alpine fail.
I didn't suggest Alpine due to the mention of not running an amp.

If your GTOs are 2 ohm, and you need an amp, go with any small 4 channel name brand amp you find for cheap online and you'll be able to bridge 2 channels to make it a 3 channel for your door speakers and 1 sub later.

And soniceletronix.com are great places to look. I've bought from both and had good luck both ways.

Will you actually listen to CD's in that truck? I buy what they call media receivers that don't have a CD player. It does radio, aux input, and Bluetooth. Mine is an older version of this one: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KDX255B/JVC-KD-X255BT.html?tp=72453
Good point. In my burb CDs would skip now and then on our roads. So I burned em all on to the computer and made a thumb drive with all my music on it. Then just left it in the deck all the time. They have short ones designed for that so it's not sticking out and getting caught on stuff.

Yep, I bought a stubby little USB just for that purpose. Most of the time I'm streaming music off my phone. I have mine mounted vertical in a Tuffy console so it wouldn't be able to play CDs, and even if I could they would be skipping all time with where I'm driving it.

The other thing I like about the media receivers is they are much lighter and smaller. Their depth is about half of a CD receiver.

The kenwood i posted the model number for doesn't have a cd drive

I never even seen that post till now lol.. yeah, that'll do :D

And thanks for the model number because that's perfect for the Bee :waytogo:

Quick little back track,

View attachment 277668

Thats a shot of the lrevious suspension hanger. Going to a different rear spring and inboarding them slightly to make room for rear steer....

Rear-steer is going to make this rig turn on a dime :waytogo:.

I'm more curious about the jack stands in the back ground. They look handy.
