Hi guys,

I was in the back of my 90 k5 blazer cleaning the carpet and noticed how rusty the ( I don't know the technical name for it) inside gas tank/filler neck hump piece is that welds up against the box side. I put my finger on it and it went right through!

Big question is......where the hell to buy a new one at? And do these weld on or are they caulked on?

LMC does NOT carry this part.

And what is the official name for this piece?

thanks for all the help

GM calls it "Cover, Fuel Tank Filler Neck K1, V1(16)"

16 is the body style of the K5 per the parts manual. No idea why they list K1 and V1, I assume that refers to K10 and V10, as if there was another K5.

Anyway, the cover is PN 476916 and the gasket is 476927. GMpartsdirect doesn't show the cover being available, that may or may not be a bad sign. If you google that number, you might find another parts dealer selling it. Or if you don't, it's probably disco'd. :( But you can always search places like ebay for people selling NOS stuff from dealers that have closed.

Screws that hold it in place are 11504547. GM says that is an M4.2x1.41x13, which probably translates to a non-metric screw.

Not sure why these rot out either, but my '83 and this '85 body both had bad ones. If you find one, I'd make sure to really coat it good with something.

Do you mean this piece? I painted mine with POR. I've had this one for a few years, it is a OEM. These rot out because road salt and sand gets up on top of the filler neck and sits there. You'll find that there's a good chance your filler neck vent pipe is perforated too. (little pin holes) I did recently see these for sale but can't remember who carried them. Classic parts and LMC has the gaskets at least. If I find the link where I saw them for sale I will post it here.

I got it from LMC about this time last year, along with the gasket.

REALLY????................I looked through my LMC catalog and on their website and all they show is the gasket..........with an image of the filler neck hump behind it to show what the gasket is a replacement for.

Was just told that CLASSIC PARTS sells this, but apparently its not in their catalog or on the website you have to talk to somebody on the phone regarding it................I'll find out more from this other source I've been in contact with.

I will have to pull my off my filler neck, to check for any pin holes...........I had that problem with a Chevy 76 3/4 ton 6 years ago.

Keep an eye on LMC. Apparently the availability varies. I tried to order one several months ago and was told if the item was "gray-ed out" in the catalog, then its not available. My next catalog showed it in black, and they had it in stock.

Was told by LMC truck today.....that they have not sold that piece for at least 5 years, and it was discontinued 10 years ago.............so not sure who you spoke to, but this part doesn't exist off and on for sale by them.

Apparently LMC has no plans of reproducing it.

As of today, CLASSIC PARTS has also said this item is discontinued.

DISCONTINUED.

If anybody else knows who is supposedly selling these, please confirm it before posting.

Went as far as adding it to the shopping cart on the site & it did NOT say discontinued, thats as far as I went with it .
Good luck ......:waytogo:

I'm not sure who's saying it's been discontinued for 5 years, but I haven't owned mine for more than probably three. I got a new floor last year and added a replacement cover, too. Got all the parts from LMC. Just saying.

not sure who I talked to, but gave them the page number and explained to them I am looking for the part that apparently they only sell the gasket for.

They told me it had been discontinued.....apparently a nos GM part......and that it hadn't been listed for 5 years.

Do you have a catalog that shows it listed for sale? Does it have a part number listed for it?

Unfortunate. I need one too. Mine was completely wasted.

I just have a rag stuffed in the floor at the moment. I may just make one myself.

I know, it really sucks, I had to use....of all things......duck tape to close mine up, after cracking out most of what was already rotted away.

I even checked CROSS CANADA..........no luck either.

I cannot believe that nobody reproduces this part.....................

That's what I'm saying. The operators at LMC are not parts people, they are just there to answer the phones and spew out what their manual tells them. I've had my K5 for just over a year and all of my interior parts have been purchased from them.

Keep an eye on the catalog, I'm not guaranteeing it, but I'd bet it'll come available again.
