Gunnar1971 submitted a new Build:

'82 Burb, "Red Rum"

Been looking for a 6.2 k20 for awhile, as the single cab D350 Cummins was getting a little tight with the boy growing up. Saw this one on craigslist as I was getting ready to head to Abilene, Texas to deliver the Cummins to its' new owner.
After a 36 hour trip to Texas, leaving last Friday at noon and touching down at L.A.X. at 11:55pm Sat night, I jumped onto CL and the Burb was gone, deleted by poster.........
I assumed it had been sold, so I started scouring CL again using adhuntr (it allows you to search all of CL, not just by city, comes in handy). after 4 days with no luck, the k20 popped back up, seller said the prospective buyer never showed up. A few texts later and I was on my way to check it out.

It showed and looked just as described, so we struck a deal for 9 bills and I had her towed home (bad injection pump). I can't wait to get off work and start diagnosing her few problems.

Ends up the P.O. busted the ear off the block for the starter....... So saving up for an engine, but she needs a few interior cosmetic things done ie, headliner (no panels right now just carpet screwed to the crossbeams), scrub the carpets and seats and scrub / paint the panels.

Headed to the local junkyard and found a headliner and rear carpet plus 2 panels needed for the inside. Bonus is the donor truck was a '91 with an overhead console.

I was going to recover the headliner in Tikiman fabric from JoAnns, but the wife shot that down, so I just grabbed some black headliner material.

Got the tailgate fixed, it wanted stick on the drivers side. Had to cover the latches and springs in PB blaster and adjust the tailgate a bit.

And got the locked up rear window motor out, so I can at least get the window up to keep the rain out.

Nice! That's super clean! I dig the flares!

Thanks!

Got to do a bit more this beautiful Christmas morning. Finished up the front headliner and installed the overhead console.

Headliner look great. Super clean rig!

Appreciate it.

I want to get it "dust resistant", as we are in the desert, prospecting, 20-30 times a year. The OE grey wouldn't last 6 months without showing lots of dirt, the black seems to work better.

She is a California truck, but was on the coast so there is some rust, but negligible.

I am debating on buying a local 6.2 2wd burb for $800 and rebuilding that engine and scavenging some parts from it before scrapping it or ordering a 6.2 from Boyce equipment for $1,388 shipped?

Damn, Whittier huh? Pretty freakin close to me, only other member closer is in Monrovia.

Hehe, good ole L.A. so close but stil spread out. My shop is up in Covina, so I have probably seen you jumping off at Azusa heading up to the canyon before.

Got the rear headliner in and flat blacked the rear A/C as the P/O had rattle canned it and it was peeling something awful.

It's getting to the point where I don't know "what the kids are saying" any more. That's sad......

2 months and 1 week later, I won my govliquidation auction, picked up the engine and got it into the garage.

Last night we decided it was time to open her up and see what we are dealing with. Bearings were a bit beat, but the crank looked beautiful. Now, time to start gathering parts.

List so far:

Main bearings (std)
Rod bearings (std)
Glowplugs
Freezeplugs
Harmonic balancer and seal
Timing chain
Water pump and gasket
Intake gasket
Oil pump and pick-up
Exhaust manifold gaskets and bolts

On to some pics.

So much for the certificate of drainage.......

Now my '82 has cast iron manifolds, where this '86 has headers, which are best?
