Hi
As my rusty K5 is way more work than anticipated, I'm thinking of save some time and work and replace the whole bedside. At first, I wanted to patch it, but I've read that the bedside is basically a bolt on replacement.

So is it true that I just have to drill out the spotwelds on the B-Pillar and the rest are just bolts?

Ok, that seems doable.
I'm considering the LMC complete bedside.
If I can do it, anyone can. I've currently got one side off and one side on so lmk if you need pics of something. Mines a 73 so some differences but mostly the same I think. And from what I have heard, all suppliers sell basically the same product

That's right you got the new reproduction sides right? How do they fit ? How's the overall quality? Are they alot thinner than factory panels?

I still have to put the body back on the frame, cut out the brace and put the door on to tell. They are a few thousand in. thinner. I put the measurements on one of the other panel threads in the body shop

So today I took a closer look. Could you show some pictures where the bedside is attached to the rest of the body? Because at least the driver side is very rusty and would need a lot of patching anyways, so a complete replacement would probably save me a lot of work. But I dont want to drill out 15315355 spot welds in weird places.

The ones in the back are more like lap welds than spot welds and I just used a cutting wheel for these. Not pictured are two more identical ones on the other side of that c channel like rear bed support

So you're proposing to swap the entire inner/outer bedside with wheel liner as a unit? Maybe that's easier than doing just the outer bedside, especially if you have a clean donor. If you're buying all of the parts new I think it close to $2k.

Yessir, my inner fender was so far gone there was nothing to weld an arch panel to. Also the upper bedrail that the top sits on was mostly rusted through. I got mine for $900 a piece at motorcity k5 and was just happy to find them as they are scarce and just become available at random times. I was told the chinese factory that makes them does limited runs depending on demand

Thanks for the pictures. And at the B-Pillar the welds are quite obvious. right? Because then I'll buy the complete bedside and replace the entire bedside instead of patching the parts together. The one 76 - 91 should be a direct fit for me.
