will it work...friend at work has a friend that has a 91 k5 that needs a steering gear box and i have one off a 83 k5 and i just wana make sure it will work...

As long as it's not been swapped, isn't a diesel, and is power steering, yes it will work. 
Only real difference if the setup is essentially the same (gas engine, non-hydroboost power steering) are the fittings for the hoses. '83 and '91 both use the Saginaw style (o-ring) fittings, if those are the same, then good to go.
