83 pick up

My buddy found a 83 short box pick up and we were thinking about going halfs on it and parting it out. He wants the engine its a 383 stroker he thinks. Is there any way to tell if it is or not cus there the same block as a 350 right???? Its got a 208. and 10 bolts that have been regear to 410s a 4 inch and 33s on center lines the doors and the tail gate look like the only good body parts on it rest have like 600 pounds of bondo. What im getting at is it worth it?? or should i just past on it

Its got a 208. -not worth a whole lot
and 10 bolts that have been regear to 410s -not worth a whole lot, 4.10s or not, they're still weak.
a 4 inch and 33s on center lines -couold be worth some coin, depending on condition
the doors and the tail gate look like the only good body parts on it rest have like 600 pounds of bondo. -bondo = bad. what looks good could be just as bad

what are you guys looking to invest in this thing? you never threw out any numbers.

Well, if it makes a difference I just sold my 83 K10 long bed for $1500. Had a 305, NP208, 700R4, 10 Bolt 2.73's and it's share of rust. Great running condition too.

you're also in Michigan, and here in the salt belt, anything with a functional transfer case and front diff triples in value when snow flies. may be different there.

I would pass on anything full of bondo, probably means the rest of it is just as neglected, If it runs well enough that you could drive it home I would pay about $500 for it

Not sure how you can check displacement without taking the engine apart

If it's a 383, then it will have the 400 crank, balancer, and flexplate. Obviously the only one you will see is the balancer. A stock 400 balancer will have "grooves" in it. All other SBCs are round and smooth, when you see a 400 balancer you will know. I'm not sure if aftermarket ones will be smooth or not, but it will having timing marks on it, so it will be easy to tell it's not stock. Buy the sounds of it, it's a pile of sh!t and not even worth getting, inless you can get for mentioned price of $500.
