84 Crew Cab - Project - "The Tank"

Been looking at ways to mount the turbo and I think I have kinda came up with a plan. Before I really get into it I need to stick my cab and a front clip on the truck to make sure I have enough room for my idea. Pretty sure it will have to move forward a little bit tho.

Hoping to make a mount that comes off of the exhaust flange that ties into the motor and then a bracket going down from that to around where the motor mount bolts. Then 5" exhaust out the wheel well back to my 8" stack that I will be running.

It's hard to tell for sure, but it looks like the wheel well might be in the way to mount it that low.

Oh, you're really going to run two turbos? I thought you were joking. What's your reasoning behind the twins?

Hell you should ask why NOT to run twin turbos. you get all the performance of a large turbo with out the LAG its the best setup if you want big power you can actually use.

Just seems like a lot of extra work and fabbing on an already large project, that will have more than enough power with the single turbo.

My reasoning is umm more power? Haha plus having twins is sweet, and with twin turbos your etgs will actually be cooler.

True that!

Yes it is more fab work, but I enjoy fab work. What is your definition of enough power? This is a project truck, might as well do it the way I want it to be once than having it drive and then having to tear it apart again.

What combo are you running, turbo wise ? Whats your fueling plan ?

Nice work so far :waytogo:

I'm running a hx35 and a tv5101, which is like a s400. As for fueling I am putting an airdog for a fuel pump, and I've been talking to my cummins guy about some injectors. I already have a 4k gsk in my fuel injector pump, and the fuel has been turned up, but that will need some fine tuning. And thanks!

Its not all that hard our expensive, and there is a big differenace EGT's with twins the USABLE power is so much more its insane twins combined with water/meth injection is what you need for pulling heavy with big power , not just rolling coal in front of the highschool chicks at sonic :waytogo:

Great attention to detail. Keep it up looks good

Thanks man!

Well have not been able to mess with the truck that much as I have wanted, but for good reasons. All I got done today was the fitting for the fuel outlet on the tank. I put it on the drivers side and put it at the rear end of the sump.

Hopefully I can get some more time soon so I can get the two returns welded into the top of the tank and weld the top onto the tank and pressure test it.

Worked on the fuel tank some more today. Its getting really close.

Got my drain welded in the bottom.

Got the two return line fittings in and also the auxiliary tank fitting as well.

Got the tank all welded up and got it pressure tested. Did some more work on the tank straps and wanted to make sure everything fit good so I stuck the tank in the truck.

Looks like everything fits just the way that I wanted it to. Going to start working on the filler neck some time soon and get the brake lines made and I should be able to start tearing the truck back down so I can finish up some welding and start spraying some paint.

They are the original springs that were in the truck when it was 2wd. 2wd springs have more arch than 4wd springs.

Ah gotcha. Good info, learn something new everyday!

Loveeeee crew cabs. Keep up the solid build!

Next is to work on getting the proportioning valve mounted and getting the brake lines made for the frame. Then I should be about ready to tear it apart and finish a lot of welding and paint the frame.

Started on the brake lines yesterday.

Need to buy some extended lines so that I can figure out where I want my front brake lines to hook up. Once this is done its tear down time.

Got my extended brake lines and also started making the mounts for the front and rear lines. Having trouble getting my flares to even look right so I cant finish up the brake lines just yet.
