'84 Jimmy, "Slow Motion Build"

Been driving this for quite a few years. Got very tired of the 3.08 geared axles so it was time to upgrade, nothing hardcore but will work fine for me.

Freshened up a set of 4.10 geared axles. 10b front (open) and a SF with a PowerTrax for the rear.

Scored a good deal on a low mileage 241.

New meats will go on once the axle swap is done, should be a couple weeks out.

This should work out good for me since i don't crawl around on the rocks. Mainly just towing the boat, exploring, ripping around in the dunes and dirt.

First i have to get this finished for my wife. Clean rig inside and out. My gift to her, early Christmas.

Time for a lift....

Going to put the Jimmy axle swap on hold, need to collect some more parts. Got the itch for a small lift. An order to ORD is in my future plans. Nothing to crazy, 2 to 3 inch lift. Might as well do it all at one time and be done with it.:D

BDS 2.5" Lift Kit

Gonna keep it simple, just enough lift so i don't scrub my new tires. Besides that, my center of gravity is getting lower as i get older :haha:, so i did not want to get to crazy with the height of the lift. Had a chat with Rivman, he has the same kit and he likes it. For $650 delivered i think it is a good deal.

Be placing an order soon.:D

Update finally.
Got the axles swapped ( man, what a huge difference going from 3.08's to 4.10's) drives like it should now. Stays locked up into overdrive, no vibes makes me very :D. Lift kit installed, went with the RC 2" all spring kit with ORD's grease able bushings and bolts. It rides quite nice, i am happy with that too. Got the Dura-Tracs (285-75-16) all mounted up. Installed the 241 TC.
Next up, re-paint the top of the cab and the topper. Fab up some new bumpers add a winch and whatever else i think of, i am sure there will be more. As you all know.........it's never DONE:haha::haha::haha:

241 puking out the breather

Put all new seals in prior to installation, so I don't think I am getting fluid from the trans. But It's puking fluid out the breather. When I installed this I filled it just like I did my old 208, put fluid in until it comes out the fill hole.
Is the capacity super critical on the 241 to prevent fluid puking out the breather?

Well it's not getting fluid from the trans. So it must have been a little to full, i can stick my little finger in and the level is about a half inch below the fill hole now.
I'll wipe everything down and runner her some more and see if i still have fluid coming out the breather. If so, i will drain it and put the exact amount called for. 4.2 pints iirc.

Lol, for sure. It's amazing what a cup or so of fluid can look like flinging and flying in the wind. Makes it look like it was a whole lot more than that.

Next weekends plans:

Weld on frame repair.JPG

81 and up box brace.jpg

I noticed a little play in the steering after the axle swap with all new ball joints, tre's, dre's and new bearings. Well turns out, the other day i had the hood open with it running and gave the steering shaft a little turn by hand and i saw a glimpse of day light open and close between the steering box and frame.
Gonna fix her for good now..:waytogo:

Well that's done, took longer to get everything installed (not enough time). What a huge difference, i should have took more pictures but i failed at that. The frame was cracked more than i thought. Stop drilled the cracks, grooved them and welded them up. Then welded in the patches and installed the bolt in brace. Like driving a new rig:D.............. well kind of:haha::haha:.

Nope failed on the progress picks, Martin. I have a hard time stopping to take photos, for some reason. I will post some up of the new to me grill guard that i bought from another member. That should be easy enough......:haha:

I forget to take pictures as well, but you can always take one of the finished product.

Martin

Picked up a grill guard from Kennyw, I'm going to add a 24" Led lightbar after a fresh coat of paint. I also picked up pair of factory tow hooks coming from Lawrence. Coming together slowly but surely:pimp:
