84 K20 "Ethel" Not an Sbc/NV4500/241C

Semi restoration of a 1984 K20 pickup. 5.3 LS, nv4500, np241c.
Glad to see it working. MT28 starters are a nice improvement. Of the 4 styles of starter that GM originally shipped with 12 volt 6.2/6.5 engines, that open-mouth MT28 that you have is the only part that my local autozone carries. One size fits all, everybody gets to upgrade.

Oh man.. Well soo uhh.. I did a boo boo, forgot to hook up the other bat cable, ended up pulling over when my temp spiked suddenly, chp pulled off and asked me if everything was ok.. I said no and as I popped the hood the cable was on fire. Yanked it off real quick like. image.jpeg
Got towed to my buddies shop, reconnected the cable and replaced the end and now I'm sitting at the tire shop waitin for horse trailer tires to get mounted.. I need ac.. Ugh..

Do yourself a favor and do a thorough visual inspection on your oil cooler lines. I had one develop a pinhole (up near the rad) on a wheeling trip with my daughter. Engine oil pushed through a .010" hole at 60 psi creates a very fine mist...pointed directly at my alternator, which ignited the oil mist. :doah: The big orange flames coming from every hood gap on the passenger side had my daughter pretty freaked out. :rotfl:

Dad, are we gonna blow up? :1zhelp:

Well.. I guess with this new starter there is a support bracket I need and some other special gold plated bolts? This is getting ridiculous..

Man, I sure hope u have a buddy with a tow truck. I couldn't afford all those tow bills. I'd be calling the wife to bring a strap.

Anyone have good luck with the bolts from napa or Autozone? I see there a special flanged head gnarled 8.8 grade m10 bolt?? What about studs??

I know you said this was a tow truck build but that not what ever one was expecting

tow truck or towed truck?

Gold bolts usually mean grade 8 or if they are metric try to get 10.9 since they are equivalent to grade 8. An 8.8 bolt is gonna be weaker like grade 5.
